“Santa’s Little Helper” is riddled with many standard Christmas clichés. Mike “The Miz” Mizanin stars in a Scrooge like role as Dax a ruthless executive who is tasked with foreclosing and tearing down the community center where he spent his youth. The community center staff pleads for an extension to their lease so that they may put on their annual Christmas play in hopes of raising money for the payment. Dax unsympathetically serves the eviction notice and then returns to his office to find out that he himself has been fired in a corporate shakeup. He’s then thrown out of the office, his girlfriend dumps him, his car is repossessed, and his house is in danger of being foreclosed on. Dax has hit rock bottom and is lost. It’s at this point that Santa decides to take pity on Dax and instructs Billie (90210’s AnnaLynne McCord), one of his most trusted elves, to meet Dax and test him as he is considering him for the newly vacated position of Head Office Herald Of Holiday Operations or the HO HO HO. Billie is shocked that someone like Dax would be considered for Santa’s #2 position but Santa insists he sees good within him. Dax has no idea who his potential employer is but is desperate for a job so he partakes in the tests often with comedic results. While this goes on an elf named Eleanor (WWE’s Paige) finds out that Santa is considering Dax for the position and not her at which point a conflict arises.
“Santa’s Little Helper” isn’t a great movie nor is it a terrible movie. For what it is, “Santa’s Little Helper” isn’t all that bad and could have been much worse. This is a WWE movie in which the company has tried to promote one of its biggest stars, Paige (who really only has an extended cameo), on the coattails of one its floundering stars The Miz who hasn’t really found his footing since an ill fated championship reign in 2010. The Miz has become a lost talent on the weekly WWE television shows but has been the go to guy for the WWE movie division. This is Miz’s 6th WWE film and the experience is starting to show.
“Santa’s Little Helper” is not a Christmas classic. It is one of the many forgettable low budget direct to DVD or basic cable Christmas specials that are released every year. At times you almost forget it’s a Christmas movie as most of the movie is spent away from the North Pole. It does have a few entertaining and funny moments and it moves at a decent pace so it doesn’t feel like a chore to watch though not a treat either. If you’re looking for a family friendly movie in a house full of wrestling fans this would be the one to watch as it’s far superior to the WWE’s previous attempt 2013’s “Christmas Bounty” (also staring the Miz).
“Santa’s Little Helper” was released to DVD and Blu-Ray 11/17/15 and will make its basic cable debut 12/20/15 on the USA Network.
