Amongst the lively and vibrant hotels on Miami’s Lincoln Road sits the ultra classy and luxurious Ritz-Carlton South Beach. The beachfront resort is just steps away from many local hot spots, famous eateries and fabulous shopping. Tucked away from the strips bright lights, art deco structures and sounds of latin music, is the Ritz-Carlton Spa. The second floor dark tranquil space is filled with the scent of sweet oils and candles.
Open 7 days a week and on holidays, the Ritz-Carlton Spa boasts 14 treatment rooms, lounges to relax in, and a full-service salon. It’s just down the hall from a stairway that leads to the resort’s massive pool area that includes a bar and poolside bungalows.
A few months ago, I visited The Ritz-Carlton South Beach for an afternoon of swimming and their signature Taste of the Tropics body treatment. Here’s the details on my experience:
Puttin On The Ritz
This Ritz-Carlton is more modern and stylish than I’ve ever expected. I thought it would be stuffy with a pre-war decor, that included antiques and floral furniture. When I walked in the main lobby I was impressed by the dark cherry wood walls, white plush couches and contemporary light wall installation. Its upscale trendy look was a fabulous surprise.
Before my treatment, my friend and I hung out in our private poolside cabana for the afternoon. The pool at the Ritz South Beach was a popular spot for the beautiful crowd and families staying at the hotel. Music blared as guest swam and sunbathed. It’s a great place to lounge around, enjoy a drink and take in some sunshine before hitting the spa.
The spa is a gorgeous. It’s fairly large in size, but still feels warm and welcoming. Spa assistant Martha, delightfully brought me a plush robe and comfy slippers and helped me get situated in the locker room. The locker area had everything including hair dryers, body lotion, and vanity areas for makeup applications.
After changing, I waited in the lounge with a glass of champagne and flipped through a fashion magazine. I loved that the entire spa is lit by candles or very dim lighting. It helped me calm down and put me in a peaceful state of mind. I actually was starting to fall asleep for a few moments, when Darlene came to get me for my treatment.
Take Me To The Tropics
The Taste of the Tropics treatment is a 50 minute scrub and massage that includes a magnificent mango and guava scented oil. The aroma of the oil was fresh and intoxicating. Darlene first scrubbed my skin to baby softness, then after rinsing off in the shower, followed up with an amazing body massage. I had plenty of knots in my back, so she had to put in work. I felt like rubber after she was finished and my skin felt ridiculously smooth.
After my yummy “taste of the tropics”, I retreated back to the lounge area where I sipped more champagne and contemplated on moving into the spa forever.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Everyone was delightfully friendly and my massage and scrub was top notch. The entire spa was clean and comfortable. Martha was such a great help and even went digging in the laundry to find my necklace I left in my robe’s pocket. Darlene was amazing. We basically giggled through the entire treatment. Trevor at the pool was attentive and a true pleasure.
The Taste of the Tropics scrub and massage comes with a candle, which I didn’t receive, but it’s a cool way to bring home the invigorating scent of the treatment. The oil is also available for purchase in the spa’s gift shop. The Ritz-Carlton South Beach spa has become one of my favorite Miami spas and I can’t wait to return.
If you’re heading to Miami this summer I suggest you at least spending a few hours here to unwind. To learn more about the spa or booked a treatment click here.
