There’s really no short answer to this question, it really all depends on what you’re looking for. Fan of “The Walking Dead”? The Walker Stalker Con is the perfect convention for you! Just don’t expect to meet and chat with all the stars unless you are prepared to bring a ton of cash with you. If you want to check it out for the experience and be among other “Walker” fanatics while seeing your favorite stars just feet away, even better!
I attended Walker Stalker Con as a member of the media to collect tips for future attendees, TV scoop for fans, and also, to be among fellow “Walking Dead” fans. And while my experience with the staff there wasn’t great, it was overall a lot of fun.
Have Realistic Expectations: As stated above, unless you’re prepared to spend a ton of cash, you won’t be meeting them all. My advice to stay in budget is to pick one or two stars that you absolutely want to meet. Arrive at the convention center early so you are one of the first in line and are able to catch both of your favorites. You might not be able to take a selfie or collect an autograph from them all, but their booths are all located next to each other, so while in line, you’ll be able to see another star up close.
Also, keep an eye out! Several times, stars walk around the arena, either in disguise or freely, and are more than happy to take a selfie with you if you ask nicely.
Staff Could Use Some Work: The Walker Stalker staff and volunteers are ready to help and direct you where to go…with a little bit of attitude. I didn’t have the best experience with the volunteers. I’m not sure if it’s because I went there as media; I didn’t pay attention to how they behaved with everyone else, but they were rude to several media members and not at all welcoming. I did keep in mind, though, that they are volunteers and not trained professionals, so I didn’t pay much attention. It’s possible that they weren’t prepared or organized well and didn’t know how to handle media. They should know we’re there to promote the event and help it grow, there’s no hidden or evil scheme behind out attendance.
Panels Are the Best: There is plenty to do besides line up at the star’s booths! Walker Stalker Con offers tons of activities. There are vendors, a Kid Zone, food, “Walking Dead” experience activities, and, my person favorite, panels! All attendees are welcome to panels. This is also your chance to ask the stars a question if you didn’t catch them at their booth. The stars chat about their lives, the show, and more! These are always a lot of fun.
