Trying to get people interested in anything related to history is just as much of a challenge as those making history nowadays. Thankfully creators Derek Waters and Jeremy Konner teamed up to bring Drunk History to Comedy Central. Now fans can bring home the drunken fun with Drunk History Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD.
Drunk History presents historical reenactments from A-list talent as told by inebriated storytellers. Drunken and often incoherent narrations provide a unique take on the familiar and less familiar people and events from our country’s great past with unforgettable results. Host Derek Waters, along with an ever-changing cast of actors and comedians, travels across the country to present the rich tales that every city in this land has to offer. While the stories here are true it’s the execution that makes it stand out. They could have easily just had these various people tell their historical tales with the same reenactments and it might have still worked, but when you fuse alcohol to the mix you have comedy gold. Each episode offers up two layers of fun with the first being that of the drunken storyteller as they struggle to keep their thoughts focused to tell the proper historical story and that of the reenactment. The genius behind this show comes more so from the reenactments themselves as they act it out and voice it to the drunk telling the story without editing it down in anyway. This offers up some hilarious moments from both the story and the actor trying to bring it to life. This would have been funny enough, but throughout these first two seasons they had a who’s who of actors showing up to bring these stories to life including Jack Black, Adam Scott, Will Forte, Stephen Merchant, Fred Willard, Ike Barniholtz, Jo Lo Tuglio, Bill Hader, Rob Riggle, Kristen Wiig, Terry Crews, Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Patton Oswalt and so many more. There is really no explaination that will do this show funny, because thanks to the person telling the story it is never the same, but always delivers the laughs.
There has never been anything quite like this show and whether you have seen the series or not it holds up as one you can watch over and over and still get the laughs every time. This collection not only features all 18 episodes of the first two seasons, but special features including drunk outtakes & extended scenes, sober reveals and an extended “First Ladies” episode that takes you along for even more fun. BE sure to grab your copy of Drunk History Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD now and get ready for even more drunken fun when Drunk History Season 3 comes to DVD March 1st from Paramount Home Entertainment.
