Tonight’s Red Wings vs Lightning live stream online and televised coverage will take place from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida as Game 1 of the best-of-seven series gets underway. Ironically, this will be the second straight season that the Wings and Lightning will meet in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. Last season the Lightning won the series in seven games. Tonight’s NHL playoff live stream will be aired through various FOX Sports and NBC outlets.
According to a CBS Sports report, these two teams are very evenly matched and just like last season, the series may be destined for a seven game finish. The Red Wings are one of the youngest teams in the NHL, however, they have one player who not only knows how to win championships, but he also knows the Lightning very well. Detroit’s center Brad Richards is a two-time Stanley Cup champion and is in the postseason for the 10th time in his 16-year career. Richards career started in Tampa, so advancing to Round 2 of the NHL postseason by taking down the Lightning would be a bitter sweet victory for the 16 year veteran. Richards is more than ready to lead the Wings towards 16 more wins and a Stanley Cup, yet he knows just making the postseason is something that is hard to do.
”This last month all thoughts were on whether we were going to make it or not,” Richards said after practice Tuesday, when he also reminisced about early playoff experiences, including the Lightning’s surprising championship run 12 years ago. ”It’s amazing once you get in,” said Richards, who has 36 goals and 68 assists in 141 playoff games. ”Last night was tough sleeping. You start thinking about the crowd, the attention. This is why you play. This is why you go through that grind of 82 games and train all summer to get yourself ready because there’s nothing like this time of year,” said Richards, who turns 36 on May 2.
The Wings may have a slight advantage in this series this time around due to a few key injuries suffered by the Lightning. The defending Eastern Conference champions will be without their leading goal scorer Steven Stamkos (blood clot) and defenseman Anton Stralman (broken left leg) for this series. Injuries aside, the Lightning still have goalie Ben Bishop, who is one of the best in the game. The Wings will start Jimmy Howard, who has a lot of postseason experience as well. Howard has reclaimed Detroit’s No. 1 goalie spot once again after getting beat out earlier in the season by Petr Mrazek.
Vegas odds makers have Tampa Bay listed at -155, with comeback on Detroit +130, The over/under number is set at 5.
