A study of woman who wear lipstick on a regular basis revealed that 71% wear red lip color. That figure doubles over the holidays!
The power of red
The color red is associated with confidence, passion and power. In a study of 1,000 women 26% reported feeling more confident while wearing red lipstick. Psychologists as well as cosmetic insiders support the belief that red lipstick has the ability to increase self-confidence. In fact, cosmetic industry pioneer, Elizabeth Arden created a red lip color during World War II for American women serving in the US armed forces to help them feel empowered and confident.
Red lip color garners attention
When the color red is worn on the lips, it becomes the focal point of your face, encouraging people to pay attention and listen to what you are saying. Various studies have been performed in an effort to determine how and why red lip color has remained a power player in the color cosmetic industry.
Manchester University conducted a study indicating that the color red works much like a visual pheromone when worn on a woman’s lips. University experts calculated the amount of time 50 men fixated on a woman’s lips during their initial encounter. Study reports show that 2.2 seconds were spent fixated on bare lips, 6.7 seconds on pink lips and 7.3 seconds passed while men were fixated on the lips of women wearing red lip color. This study was performed using women with various lip sizes indicating that the shade of color worn on a woman’s lips is more important that size of her lips.
Another study conducted in France indicated that waitresses received significantly higher tips when wearing red lip color over any other shade of lipstick. To further affirm this theory, a separate study divulged that men were willing to spend more money on a woman during a date if she wore red lip color.
