Update: Samson was adopted!
Samson is just a puppy and his life has been a rough one. He’s been in two shelters — through no fault of his own! He was only a nine-month-old puppy when he was adopted from the Pasco County Animal Shelter. Now, three months later, he is at the Hillsborough County Pet Services, and he can be killed at any time. This sweet, young puppy might die, and some volunteers are furious that Pasco County Animal Control, which has a much better save rate than Hillsborough County and where they do not kill for space, refuses to take Samson back. Even though he was adopted from them three months ago.
Samson was also recently adopted from the Hillsborough shelter, but the adopter brought him back almost immediately claiming that Samson was vomiting. Really? Dogs vomit sometimes when they get in new surroundings. They vomit when they eat something outside that doesn’t agree with them. Samson was checked out by the shelter veterinarian, and he is healthy and ready for adoption.
So now Samson is in the same situation he was before he was adopted — once from Pasco County and once from Hillsborough County. At Pasco County, at least he would have been safe until he got a home, but at Hillsborough County Pet Services he will be killed when his kennel is needed. Samson is a black dog, which serves to make it less likely that he will get adopted. Black dogs are the number one color of dog killed in shelters.
And what about Samson? What kind of dog is he? Watch his video and see him sit on command. He has beautiful, expressive light brown eyes and is wonderfully attentive. He is a wonderful, young energetic puppy. The notes state that in play group with other dogs, “He has done wonderful in play group assessments and needs a home! His notes indicate that he is very playful, wants to jump and run. He was play bowing and was a definite pass and he showed NO aggression.“
He is heartworm negative and ready to find a forever home immediately. Please share Samson’s story with friends and family on social media. It’s time to make sure that Samson’s third adoption is a success. He needs someone who will love him unconditionally — which is what he will do in return. He will love his new family with all his heart.
