Recently, Public Art Fund hosted its annual Spring Benefit at Metropolitan West in Midtown. Public Arts Fund works to redefine the public art scene in New York City by showcasing free exhibitions that are innovative and impactful. Notable attendees included Cynthia Rowley, Christopher Leacock aka Jillionaire, Nathalie and Charles de Gunzberg, Yvonne Force Villareal, Klaus Biesenbach, Cecilia Alemani, Massimiliano Gioni, Stuart Comer, Wes Gordon, Mitchell Silver, John Thain, Robert Soros, Patricia E. Harris, Tod Williams & Billie Tsien, Barbara Gladstone, Paula Cooper, Alex Logsdail, Paul Kasmin, Michael Elmgreen & Ingar Dragset, Tony Oursler, Ryan McNamara, Spencer Finch, Olaf Breuning, Spencer Sweeney, and Pat Steir. The gala included a cocktail hour, dinner, a silent auction, and an after-party.
The event included a number of interactive components with the following artists showcasing their work that evening:
• Davide Balula put an arty spin, on a traditional game of darts, inviting guests to participate in the creation of a new artwork.
• Xavier Cha’s new performance combined the spectacle of combat with the slow-motion choreography and technical effects of an artwork
• Nathalie Pozzi & Eric Zimmerman invited guests to test their mettle in a short, four-player game of strategy and manipulation
• Hank Willis Thomas unveiled a special new limited edition work inspired by his current Public Art Fund exhibition, The Truth is I See You
Guests also had the opportunity to bid on art by Olaf Breuning, Isha Geskin, Rachel Rose, Robb Wynn, Hank William Thomas, and many more. What an impressive event!
