On February 15, 2016, eighty-five snowsports professionals received an invitation to the on-snow portion of PSIA-AASI’s (Professional Ski Instructors of America and American Association of Snowboard Instructors) National Team selection to be held in April at Breckenridge, Colorado. Every four years there is a tryout or job interview where snowsports professionals vie for a coveted spot on one of the teams. The teams consist of Alpine, Snowboard, Adaptive, and Nordic (with cross-country and telemark specialists).
Team members embody the profession of teaching skiing, snowboarding, and instilling a passion for the mountain lifestyle. They are inspirational athletes, educators, and lifelong learners.
The job interview is set at Breckenridge this April 17-21, 2016. Candidates will be evaluated on a variety of skills including skiing/riding abilities, interviews, indoor presentations, on-snow teaching scenarios, giving and receiving feedback, plus many other criteria.
Applicants had to submit an in depth application packet which included many factors. Applicants submitted a cover letter, a resume, a list of references, a video submission, and a ski tip or writing sample. The deadline to submit the application packet was December 2015 and then applicants were notified in February. To be invited is a huge honor and the candidates are broken out into their specific disciplines. For example, there are 40 people for the Alpine selection.

Good luck to all the applicants and those that put themselves out there in the process. Breckenridge is shaping up to be a great event and learning experience for all in attendance.
