Prince died suddenly and authorities continue to investigate the reason why he passed away. So far, the findings are not looking good, because it seems that the investigation is centered on a possible drug overdose. The Guardian, April 29, 2016, reports that opioid medication was found on Prince’s body at the time of his death which led to authorities to search his Paisley Park complex. where they allegedly found more opioid pills.
Investigators are trying to determine whether Prince had a prescription for the medication and the identity of the doctor who prescribed them to him. It could also be that Prince obtained them illegally by having someone else buy them for him.
Chief Deputy Jason Kamerud of the Carver County Sheriff’s Department said, “We’re continuing to investigate the circumstances of Prince’s death. The ME will provide toxicology results with her findings. I expect it to be a few weeks before we have her report(s).”
Investigators also want to determine if Prince had a doctor on board the plane when someone on the plane made the request for an emergency landing. About a week prior to the singer’s death, Prince was found unconscious on the plane.
Investigators are are trying to determine what drugs were involved and if an overdose killed him on April 21 when he was discovered, unresponsive, in an elevator at Paisley Park. It is believed that Prince was taking Percocet, a powerful painkiller at the time, or perhaps something as equally powerful because he suffered from pain in his hip and knees.
Sheila E. told the Associated Press that during concerts, Prince would jump off risers and stage speakers while wearing heels and this ultimately caused his physical issues.
On April 15, Prince was just returning from home to Minneapolis after doing a performance in Atlanta when he was found unconscious on his plane and they had to request an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois. First responders allegedly gave Prince a shot of Narcan, also known as a “save shot” when it’s suspected that the person had an opioid overdose. However, whether Prince overdosed, or had a bad reaction to something he took or exactly what happened on the plane is unknown or not being released to the public.
The warrant issued to search Prince’s home and studios were sealed so the investigation would not be disrupted. Carver County Chief Deputy Jason Kamerud signed the affidavit to keep the contents of the warrant sealed, otherwise, it could jeopardize the “search or related searches” rendering them unsuccessful.
There are reports going around that investigators want to involve the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, in this matter but Chief Deputy Jason Kamerud said that it is not true.
“We have not asked them for help, or asked them to be a part of the investigation. We might contact them to help us, but that hasn’t happened. We don’t have the medical examiner’s report yet. We don’t know to what extent pharmaceuticals could be a part of this.”
Many of Prince’s close friends have said he lived a clean life, but now it could be that he had a problem that few knew about. What do you think happened to Prince Rogers Nelson; was it a drug overdose or something else that claimed his life at the age of 57?
