The recent Fla. Presidential Preference Primary election held on March 15, 2016 proved very successful and beneficial to Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton (home boy Marco Rubio took a shellacking!) as having Florida under their belts as potential party nominees is powerful ammunition for the Nov. 8 general election. The following data is taken from the most recent information from the websites of the Supervisors of Elections in St. Lucie, Martin and Palm Beach counties situated on or near the Treasure Coast of Florida. These are unofficial results as the processing of elections requires Canvassing Boards in each county to convene to certify the March 15 election results.
St. Lucie County:
St. Lucie County, in the recent Presidential Preference Primary, had a voter turnout at 43.86% with a total of votes cast at 58,201 from a pool of 132,684 total registered voters. In the most exhilarating and also controversial activities of candidates in the Republican Party, Donald J. Trump grabbed Florida’s entire “winner takes all” contest for delegates across Florida and in St. Lucie County he received 57.85% of the vote with 18,350 votes cast. Marco Rubio came in second at 19.55% equaling 6,200 votes. Ted Cruz received 12.52% with 3,970 votes and John R. Kasich weighed in at 6.60% with 2,094 votes.
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton ran away with the majority vote across Florida and in St, Lucie County she yielded 66.90% which represents 17,554 votes. While Bernie Sanders is making constant progress with supporters in Florida, March 15 election results placed him with 30.83% which equals 8,091 votes in St. Lucie County.
Martin County has a total registered voter’s count of 80,207 with total votes cast on March 15 at 42,471 representing a total voter turnout of 52.95 %. Front runner Donald J. Trump showed his prowess by crushing homegrown Rubio in Republican dominated Martin County with 51.07% of the vote which equals a total of 16,065 votes cast. Marco Rubio came in second with 21.47% representing only 6,755 votes. Ted Cruz got 12.42% representing 3,906 votes cast. John R. Kasich received 11.39% equaling 3,584 votes.
With the Democrats in Martin County, Hillary Clinton received 59.83% of the vote representing 6,523 votes cast. Bernie Sanders cleared 37.62% with votes of 4,101 cast.
Palm Beach County:
Palm Beach County has a total registered voter count of 845,165, (no information available on voter turnout for March 15). In the recent Presidential Preference Primary in Democrat dominate Palm Beach County, Donald J. Trump (REP) received 52.13% of the vote which equals 66,065 votes cast; Marco Rubio (REP) received 24.33% of the vote representing 30,836 votes cast; Ted Cruz (REP) won 12.08% of the vote with 15,311 ballots cast; John R. Kasich (REP) received 9.42% equaling to 11,937 votes cast.
Democrats gave Hillary Clinton 71.47% of the vote representing 103,369 votes cast; Bernie Sanders received 27.18% of the vote equaling to 39,314 votes cast in Palm Beach County.
