Trader Joe’s is debatably the most popular food store chain in SoCal and one which some refer to as the ‘poor man’s gourmet shop’. Party givers flock there for their booze and snacks, other shoppers go for daily supply of fresh fruits, vegetables, breads and groceries. The prices are moderate, the produce usually fresh. It is even a tourist draw for visitors who come to town and want to see what the shop is all about because one hasn’t opened in their area yet—the chain has branches throughout the US but not everywhere. Some folks also drop in at the Trade Joe’s near LAX to stock up on snacks or sandwiches to bring on the plane. Therein lies the rub. If you purchased nuts at the store recently Trader Joe’s just announced they are recalling bags of raw cashews after the supplier of the nuts warned some bags may contain salmonella.
According to eturbonews, the supermarket chain says the recall is being done “out of an abundance of caution” while they investigate the matter, as no illnesses have been reported to date. The cashews in question are bags labelled “BEST BEFORE 07.17.2016TF4.” “Please do not eat it,” the company stated. Instead, the retailer is asking consumers who have purchased the product not to eat it and bring it in for a refund. Here is the e full statement from the company’s website which reads:
