Melissa McCarthy has proven to the world that a women doesn’t have to be a size two to be a Hollywood leading lady. The same is beginning to happen in the modeling world with pioneers such as Ashley Graham breaking glass ceilings who was the first ever Sports Illustrated plus size model featured in the highly popular swimsuit issue.
Unfortunately, body shaming and fat lashing continues from countless, shallow social media users and followers who live to make others feel bad about their appearance. The tide is turning, slowly, and body shaming is starting to become taboo. Even more importantly, advertisers are beginning to realize they are alienating a tremendous demographic by not embracing the plus size market and that applies to both men and women!
Does this mean the haters are going to stop harassing those who may carry extra weight? Don’t count on it anytime soon. While the plus size market is making progress, it takes the general public a long time to catch up with change to a new mind set. And, who knows… Perhaps ten years from now everyone will be free to be themselves and fat bashing will be as disgraceful as racism. We can only hope!
