Lights, camera, action! Piper-Heidsieck returns to the red carpet as the exclusive Champagne of the 88th Academy Awards.
As 2016 began, the Champagne brand kicked off the Oscar season with a unique press event featuring a Champagne and Caviar breakfast at the Martha Hotel. New York-based wine journalists watched the nominee announcements on television while sipping Piper-Hiedsieck Champagne and enjoying caviar from the ethically-sourced Mottra Caviar.
Mottra, which recently entered the U.S. market, is managed by a group of Russian and Latvian caviar specialists who bring together science, ecology and quality at their sturgeon farms, emphasizing crystal clear water and a distinct lack of preservatives. The elegant pairing of caviar and Champagne added to the festive nature of the morning.
Although this is the second year that Piper-Heidsieck has been actively involved with the Academy Awards, it has been associated with the cinema since the early 1930s. In fact, in 1964, the brand created a bespoke bottle to celebrate Rex Harrison’s Oscar win for his role in My Fair Lady. More recently, Piper-Heidsieck has worked with the French and American Cinémathèques and has also been the official Champagne of the International Cannes Film Festival for more than 20 years.
Next week, as movie fans and industry insiders turn their attention to the presentation of those golden statues affectionately known as Oscar, those lucky enough to be in attendance at the ceremony and Governor’s Ball will enjoy a “Red Carpet Ready” limited edition magnum bottle. The Champagne house will also pour three vintages of its Rare prestige cuvée (1988, 2002, 1998), a wine produced only in exceptional vintages.
Get yourself Red Carpet Ready! Those of us watching the award show from the comfort of our couches can take a cue from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood and transform a cold winter’s night into a sultry soiree. Certainly, a bottle of bubbly makes any occasion special – providing an instant upgrade from blah to ta-dah!
Moreover, a care package, compliments of Piper-Heidsieck, included not only a bottle of Piper-Heidsieck’s Brut NV, but also advice from bloggers Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan (aka the Fug Girls of www.GoFugYourself.com), on the best lipstick (MAC’s Russian Red) and nail polish (MAC’s Fabulous Fete) to provide the finishing touches to your evening attire (both available through MAC Cosmetics).
Additionally, the package featured a tin of Hampton Popcorn’s White Truffle Parmesan popcorn, an excellent match for the high acidity and effervescence of Champagne and similar sparkling wines. Plus, popcorn pairs well with any movie!
For the full effect, a bottle of Piper-Heidsieck Brut NV coupled with an adorable Champagne bucket, reminiscent of a vintage movie theater popcorn container, is available online through Uncorked.com, but the wine itself can be found more broadly in both half and full-sized bottles.
At under $40.00 for a 750 ml bottle (and available locally at PJ Wine for only $33.97), this Champagne is an amazing value with beautifully rich and toasty aromas and flavors, along with bright acidity, citrus notes and long length.
It’s the picture-perfect way to celebrate this Sunday night or any night of the week!
