The Pike County Ohio shooting left eight people dead and they are all members of one family. Police report that the victims were found in four locations, with seven adults and one teen shot execution style, some while in bed sleeping.
According to MSN News on April 23, a 4-day-old baby was found unharmed sleeping next to her dead mother in bed. Police first got a 911 call and then the surreal realization hit. Police learn that the horrendous crime scene they were called to had three others just like it in this rural area of Ohio farmland.
The killer or killers came before dawn for the victims, with three of the locations just a mile apart from each other. Men, woman and a teen are dead and all were shot in the head at least once. Three small children and the baby sleeping with her mother were found alive and unharmed.
Police are baffled as to who could possibly do this and they are at a loss for a possible motive for all this carnage. The investigation so far reveals that none of the dead had committed suicide, so this rules out a murder-suicide scenario. It also leads to the scary fact that whoever did this is still at large.
According to MSN, “Officials would not confirm possible motives or the identities of the victims, other than that they all are members of the Rhoden family, a large and well-known group in the community.” Law enforcement officials have taken steps to keep the other members of the Rhoden family safe today.
Ohio Attorney General DeWine reported since there was no suicide involved “obviously we have one person … who is armed and dangerous. And there may be more than one. There may be two. There may be three. We just don’t know at this point.” It was reported earlier that police had a person of interest, but they have interviewed 30 people so far and have not detained anyone.
This has to be a bizarre and difficult crime for police in the area. According to Channel 5 Local News police were responding to the first 911 call on Friday morning just before 8 a.m. as the female caller walked into the house and found her brother-in-law and his brother dead.
Police were making their way to the house at 4077 Union Hill Road and they were flagged down for 4199 Union Hill Road and 3122 Union Hill Road, all in Pike County. They found similar scenes of shooting deaths of seven victims total at all three homes.
Later that day a little before 1:30 p.m., another member of the Rodhen family had gone over to his 16-year-old nephews house. He was there to check on him after learning other family members were killed. He found the teen dead. A 911 call was placed to police and they had their eighth victim of the day. This investigation is on-going, but police are baffled as to who would possibly do this to the Rhoden family.
