The Finnish metal band Apocalyptica performed at The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, Michigan on Monday night. Opening support for this tour is Tennessee rockers 10 Years and newcomers Failure Anthem.
Apocalyptica has been performing since 1993. Originally they were a Metallica classical tribute band. They soon developed their own style of neoclassical metal music, using 3 Cellos instead of guitars. Their sound is soothing, relaxing, and calming. Yet sometimes their sound is intense, fierce and haunting, but nevertheless always very powerful!
Apocalyptica is touring in support of their eighth studio album, titled Shadowmaker, which was released last year. Franky Perez is singing all vocal tracks on the new album and has been the vocalist on the tour since 2014. Apocalyptica has had dozens of guest vocalist on their previous albums, but it seems like they finally found the right fit and have made Perez a permanent member.
The show was packed with fans of all ages, with many claiming it was their first time seeing the band. Apocalyptica has been coming to Pontiac every year for the last few years. Its a great intimate venue with a fantastic sound system. Apocalyptica performed a long set of songs, including their biggest hits “I Don’t Care” and “I’m Not Jesus”. They also played four awesome popular Metallica covers and two Seplutura covers. Apocalyptica closed out the show with a new song “Dead Man’s Eyes”.
Apocalyptica is always an incredible live show. If you haven’t seen them yet, put it on your bucket list!
