Golf is a very unpredictable sport and that certainly held true this week as Jason Day, Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Justin Rose, the four biggest names playing in the tournament all missed the cut at the 2016 Farmers Insurance Open.
Jason Day and Rickie Fowler were the top two favorites in the betting odds for the Farmers Insurance Open, while Justin Rose was tied for the third betting choice and Phil Mickelson was the 5th choice in the betting odds. Out of the top five PGA golfers in the betting odds only Dustin Johnson made the cut.
Not only is that stunning it’s basically a disaster for the 2016 Farmers Insurance Open as the tournament lost all of it’s biggest stars for the weekend. It’s also stunning because Rickie Fowler just won last week at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship and Phil Mickelson shot -21 under and tied for 3rd last Week at La Quinta.
Entering the 2016 Farmers Insurance Open, Jason Day is the 2nd ranked golfer in the world, Rickie Fowler is ranked at #4 and Justin Rose is ranked #7. The organizers for the Farmers Insurance Open were probably thrilled at the field they had for this year’s tournament but now they have to be stunned, shocked and devastated as they’ve lost all the top names and ranked golfers for the tournament.
