The 2016 Honda Classic golf tournament on the PGA Tour is taking place this week from February 25-28, 2016, on the Champion Course at the PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Here is a list of the prize money for the PGA golfers to win at the 2016 Honda Classic.
The Honda Classic dates back to 1972. Jack Nicklaus (1977, 1978), Johnny Miller (1980, 1983), Mark Calcavecchia (1987, 1988) and Padraig Harrington (2005, 2015) jointly hold the record for most wins in the tournament with two each. Tiger Woods has never won the Honda Classic though he did finish in second in 2012 when Rory McIlroy was the winner.
The total prize money at the 2016 Honda Classic is $6.1 million. That is the same amount of prize money as last year. The winner’s share below is set in stone while the other amounts can vary slightly based upon ties and how many players make the cut.
- Winner – $1.098 million
The winner of the 2016 Honda Classic will earn a cool $1.098 million. That is the same amount of prize money Padraig Harrington earned when he won the tournament last year. The winner of a PGA Tournament typically earns 18% of the total prize money up for grabs.
- Second place – $658,800
Second place is worth $658,800 at the 2016 Honda Classic. That is the same amount of prize money earned by Daniel Berger when he lost the playoff last year to Padraig Harrington and he finished in second place. As mentioned above, Tiger Woods came in second place in this tournament in 2012.
- Third place – $414,800
Third place at the 2016 Honda Classic is worth $414,800. Paul Casey, Russell Knox and Ian Poulter split $951,600 with each player earning $317,200 when they all teid for third place in the Honda Classic last year.
- Fourth place – $292,800
Fourth place is worth $292,800 at the Honda Classic in 2016. The last two players to finish alone in the Honda Classic in 4th place were Lee Westwood in 2012 and Ricky Barnes in 2011. Fourth place in a PGA golf tournament is usually worth 4.8% of the total purse.
