According to the Jerusalem Post, and reported by Breitbart, comedian Jackie Mason, raised the level of comedy in the 2016 presidential election, to an all-time high, when he accused Democratic candidate of being a “schmuck.” Mason discussed Sanders on Sunday, during a radio interview segment on “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio”, a New York talk radio program. Mason went on to argue his point that Senator Sanders is critical of Israel, because he himself is not comfortable as a Jewish person.
“Here’s a Jew from Brooklyn who never even saw a gentile till he was 28. Obviously, this man has a very, very big sickness. There’s something about being Jewish that makes him self-conscious and nervous. And he has to prove to himself and to the country that he doesn’t favor Israel in any way. He’s so determined that he’ll tell any lie about Israel that he can think of to say to you: “Do you see that?” This is proof that I don’t pay for Israel. The fact that I want every Israeli to drop dead for me to prove a point doesn’t matter. If they all get wiped out, it’s not my business. The main thing is that I’m not favoring Israel. A schmuck like Bernie Sanders pops out who doesn’t even know what’s going on and doesn’t care. Because to him Israel getting wiped out is no problem. Climate change is the only problem. To him, the most important thing in the world is climate change. If Israel gave up their country but they fought for climate change, he would love Israel. In ten minutes, they would be his favorite country.”
Mason later attacked Sander’s views, regarding use of “disproportionate” force in the Gaza. “If they were bombing his house every day, would he say, “Don’t do anything to them? Don’t disturb them.” So what if they are bombing my house? That doesn’t mean that I should start hurting them. Could you picture him saying don’t disturb them if their only purpose is to keep bombing your house until they destroy you and your whole family? And they never stop. Does that mean that you should do anything about it? Try to control yourself. Don’t be disproportionate. Don’t bomb them back. Call them names. Make an announcement that you resent it.”
Jackie Mason, has been known to refer to himself as the “Ultimate Jew”,and his argument seems to be that Sanders is not nearly as committed to his faith. There are many who believe that religion and faith are both deeply personal, and that they should be separate from one’s political views. However, there are others who believe that one’s faith guides one’s principles. Mason appears to be making the assumption that Sanders is somehow less Jewish, simply because he shares different views. A question that could be posed to Mason might go something like this, “Did you hear the one about the comedian and the politician?” I’m sure he would have quite the response. After all, he’s a comedian isn’t he?
