Holding your older child’s birthday party at a hotel is a trend that is growing at an incredible rate for good reason. It’s fun. It’s really fun. Recently my husband and I booked the Embassy Suites Denver Downtown Convention Center for our son’s 12th birthday. It was the ideal choice for this type of party – here’s why:
1. Spacious suites. No doubt you’ll do your homework and choose well-behaved children to place on the guest list, but even the best kids can get excited (after all, it is a party) and need room in order to get along. The Embassy Suites Denver Downtown Convention Center has wonderfully roomy rooms. Get a corner suite for the supervising adults and a room next door with two double beds for the kids (I recommend a maximum of 4 children on the guest list). This hotel provided plenty of space for the kids to wander and socialize. If you decide to decorate, there’s room for that. We brought a simple “Happy Birthday” banner and didn’t feel like more was needed; the atmosphere was plenty festive!
2. Perfect downtown location. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the 16th Street Mall. As our son and all his friends love sports, we walked to the two nearby sports shops for some retail entertainment. For dinner, we chose the Yard House for the sheer number of menu items and its proximity to the hotel. In our group we had vegetarians, a gluten-free child and some hard-core meat eaters. The Yard House has enough options to make everyone happy.
3. Coolness factor. The number one factor that will ultimately decide if the hotel party is a success or not is the hotel’s cool/fun score which tends to be largely based on which onsite amenities are offered. This hotel has a gorgeous 14-story atrium, an indoor saline swimming pool, a restaurant, a fitness center, a large breakfast buffet in the morning, a fountain and two HDTVs in each room. The boys agreed that because of all this, the Embassy Suites Denver Downtown is “awesome.”
We made full use of all that is ideal about this hotel in order to make our son’s party his best yet. After an in-depth child-centric exploration of the hotel and some unpacking, we all headed out to explore the area and get dinner. Before bed we went swimming, which wore the party guests out. After movie night in the rooms (the hotel offers a nice TV package of premium channels so there was a lot from which to choose), the boys slept soundly, which means so did my husband and I. It also helped that the rooms are spotlessly clean and feature comfortable beds. In the morning, the delicious breakfast buffet, complete with made-to-order hot options, was the perfect way to end the party.
My recommendation: First, choosing a hotel birthday party will be a decision you may just make every year when you see how easy it is to hold a legendary party with very little work. Next, you can’t beat the Embassy Suites Denver Downtown Convention Center for its large rooms, proximity to the 16th Street Mall and fantastic amenities. I recommend it!
