The Oscars 2016 live stream online and televised Academy Awards show will be the 88th annual edition of the show, with comedian and actor Chris Rock serving as host. Rock has already teased that he has something in store for the movie awards ceremony set for Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles on Sunday night, which has many people wondering just what he might do. In addition to people seeing how Rock handles the event with all the controversy surrounding what many analysts have pointed out is a show lacking African American nominees, there’s also going to be celebrity presenters, performances and of course award winners. Viewers will be able to watch it all go down with The Oscars 2016 live streaming and TV coverage thanks to ABC networks on Sunday evening.
According a Feb. 27 Chicago Sun-Times report via film critic Richard Roeper, Oscars host Chris Rock has been quiet on social media, with the exception of his recent Instagram and teasers. One Instagram photo shows him dressed in an astronaut’s uniform with another showing Rock as he poses alongside Kristen Wiig and director J.J. Abrams. While Rock is likely to address the topic of the lack of diversity in Hollywood as part of his jokes on stage, it’s less likely that he’s going to try to hijack the show in order to try to take a stand against the controversy. Roeper notes that Rock is “a showbiz veteran who respects the room and is friendly with many of the people in the audience who are up for awards tonight and is friends.” With that said, he’ll probably take some shots at a few A-listers as well as the current political candidates, but he won’t ruin the night for stars like Leonardo DiCaprio or Sylvester Stallone, both of whom could win awards.
Aside from Rock, other celebrities will be on hand as presenters. They’ll include Abrams, Patricia Arquette, Russell Crowe, Morgan Freeman, Whoopi Goldberg, Kevin Hart, Michael B. Jordan, Daisy Ridley, Benecio del Toro, Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington and Jennifer Garner. Hart, a fellow comedian, could be another one to watch for in terms of making a few jokes about the lack of diversity. In addition to the presenters and possible jokes, there will be musical performances. Lady Gaga, Sam Smith and The Weeknd will each have the stage to perform nominated songs from “The Hunting Ground,” “Spectre,” and “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters will also have a special performance.
