Recorded live at UCLA’s Royce Hall to augment the inspirational and thought provoking conversations aired on SuperSoul Sunday on OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network), the SuperSoul Sessions is the first extension of the spiritual talks platform from its core television audience to a live event.
Conceived to inspire positive change, the SuperSoul Sessions is hosted by Oprah Winfrey and consists of 10 inspirational talks from some of the most recognized spiritual thinkers of our time, that explore spirituality and personal fulfillment, while offering insights to how you can live your best life.
Premiering Sunday, December 13th at 8:00p.m. ET/PT on the OWN channel, the SuperSoul Sessions will air a new episode over four consecutive Sundays featuring portions of the following speakers:
Sunday, December 13th (8 p.m. – 9 p.m. ET/PT)
The Anatomy of Trust: According to Brené Brown, one of the biggest casualties people face in life is the loss of self-trust. Throughout this SuperSoul Session, Brown identifies seven core elements that are essential to “braving” the vulnerable landscape of putting yourself out there to cultivate, express and ultimately experience trust.
The Heart and Soul of a Comeback: Do you “remember what you were like as a kid when you shouted with vibrancy?” Resurgence, recovery, return, rally, upturn, all synonymous with the “comeback-ing” that is necessary to be in the mental space where there is still something wonderful in your life to shout about. Motivational speaker, and “Pastor to the stars,” Tim Storey inspires all SuperSoulers to not let life knock the “shout out of you,” as you move to re-claim the vibrancy and delight with which you once embraced life.
Sunday, December 20th (8 p.m. – 9 p.m. ET/PT)
The Life-Altering Power of a Positive Mind: Medical School Syndrome is a condition frequently reported in medical students, who perceive themselves to be experiencing the symptoms of a disease that they are studying. Take a moment to imagine how similar effects of this syndrome can apply to the repetitious daily intake of negative news, and information, we are bombarded with. You guessed it, there would be very little room for you to hold onto positive emotions and/or thinking. Shawn Achor, author and happiness expert straightforwardly explains during his session that the lens through which we view the world is what profoundly affects us.
Participate in Your Own Unfolding: “Behind every human aberration, there is a spiritual aspiration that is hindered and trying to come through. When there is a sincere intention on your part to grow, just having the intention takes you a long way because the field you live in larger.” Throughout the years, Michael Bernard Beckwith masterfully clarifies that we are each present on this planet as a vehicle through which infinite potential seeks to express itself. In this SuperSoul Session, Beckwith prompts us to know that our role in the participation of our own unfolding is to not hinder the expression, but to instead ask, “What is the vision that is held in the mind of God for my life?”
Flight of the Hummingbird – The Curiosity Driven Life: If I had to choose one talk at the SuperSoul Sessions that was my favorite, this would be it. Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love and Big Magic, eloquently gives voice to the meandering manner in which so many of us find our way in life. Moving from one experience to another, like a hummingbird moves from flower-to-flower, Gilbert discusses how curiosity can create an openness to unfamiliar experiences of discovery, joy and delight. The accumulated wisdom gained from seeking out experiences that you genuinely want to know more about, provide an opportunity for you to explore, pursue and ultimately find your way back to your own magical self.
Sunday, December 27th (8 p.m. – 9 p.m. ET/PT)
You Matter: As always, there’s no sugar-coating with Iyanla Vanzant, which is precisely why she matters in these spiritual conversations. Sometimes directness is the only way to get a point across, and Ms. Vanzant has never exhibited anything less than that. “You Matter. What you do matters and how you do it matters.” In this session, Ms. Vanzant implores all of us to, “Stop chasing things that are beneath the truth of who you are.”
The Joy of Growing Younger: “Outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day-by-day.” Rob Bell, founder of Mars Hill Bible Church which he pastored until 2012 and author of Love Wins, encourages SuperSoulers to, “Let go of toxic ideas of getting older and stopping your participation in life.”
The Path of Authenticity – Embracing the Otherness: Prior to the SuperSoul Sessions, I had not heard of Janet Mock. As transgender rights activist and author of Redefining Realness, Mock delivers a passionate and compelling session on how being real “will help empower you to step into who you are and encourage you to share yourself with those around you.”
Sunday, January 3rd (8 p.m. – 9 p.m. ET/PT)
The Spiritual Purpose of Relationships: Actualization, collaboration and service. According to Marianne Williamson these are the keys to right-relationships. This session emphasizes, “Relationships are hospitals of the soul. At any given moment you can be wounded, but you can choose not to act from your wound.” Regardless if the relationship is with someone else, or your relationship with yourself, standing in your own power is always the lesson of the day from Marianne Williamson. Speaking with candor and strength, Williamson demonstrates what it is to be “brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous…because playing small does not serve the world.”
Belief Creates Reality: In an interview Deepak Chopra expanded on his SuperSoul Session of how intricately belief shapes our reality, “The basic understanding is that your beliefs about yourself are reflected in the outer world, in your relationships, in your circumstances and events in your life, which mirror your beliefs about yourself. They actually structure the connections between neurons in our brain that allow us only to see who or what we believe in. So when people say, “Seeing is believing,” it’s actually the other way around. Believing is seeing.”
As you watch the televised sessions, you will see there is a lot of information to sift through.
It is my hope that something from these SuperSoul Sessions will inspire you to make the necessary adjustments to transform your life into the adventure of growth, and love that it was intended to be.
“Those who listen to the truth and use it in their own process of expansion will always make great improvements and progress in spirit.”
