Lily Tomlin said recently that she “loves Denver for the fans and the scenery.” “I have performed here many times and I love coming back to a place that I get treated with the upmost respect and the people seem to love me here.”
Lily Tomlin began her career as a stand-up comedian in local coffee shops and eventually moved on to New York landmark clubs. Along the way, Lily Tomlin had built a strong following. In 1966, Lilly made her television debut on The Garry Moore Show, and The Mary Griffin Show. In 1969, Lily joined the distinguished and top-rated cast of the variety show Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In. This put Lily Tomlin in the national spotlight with her characterizations of Ernestine, the irascible telephone operator, And Edith Ann, the devilish six-year old.
Lily Tomlin went on to co-write and star in several comedy television specials, and has been a guest star in the television shows Homicide, X-Files, Will and Grace, Murphy Brown, The West Wing, Malibu Country and her new series with co-star Jane Fonda – Grace and Frankie. In 1977, Lily Tomlin went to Broadway with Appearing Nitely. The Jane Wagner critically-acclaimed play The Search for Signs of Intelligent Live in the Universe in 1985 stared the incredible Lily Tomlin.
Being on the big screen is nothing new to Lily Tomlin either as she made her debut in 1975 in the movie Nashville. Lily Tomlin has appeared in 9 to 5, The Incredible Shrinking Woman, All of Me, Shadows and Fog, Short Cuts, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Player, Flirting With Disaster, Away with Murder, Krippendorf’s Tribe, Orange County, I Heart Huckabee’s, A Prairie Home Companion, and Admission and Grandma. Some of her numerous honors include: seven Emmys, two Tony Awards, tow Peabody Awards, a Grammy, the Mark Twain Prize and was the recipient of the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors.
