Orange County Music League was started by John Safari and Kevin Martin as a way to combat the pay-to-play system that has long existed here. This promotion company books and puts on shows where bands can play without having to sell a certain number of tickets. That in itself is a pretty noble effort. However, OCML is doing more good things to help not just bands, but the homeless of Orange County.
On the first Sunday of every month, OCML puts on a food drive to help homeless people. The event begins with OCML’s Sunday Brunch from 11:30 to 3:30. On Sunday, April 3, the following artists will play the brunch portion of the all-day event:
- 11:45-12:30 Heather LoveJoy
- 12:35-1:05 Wandering Monarch
- 1:15-2 Decent Criminal (from Santa Rosa)
- 2:15-3 Rosedale (from Toronto)
- 3:15-4 The Altar Billies
From 4:30 to 5:30 is a musical comedy improv performance.
After the improv performance, the following artists will play to close out the day:
- 6-6:30 Blackball Bandits
- 6:50-7:20 Too Bad
- 7:40-8:10 Chad Martini
- 8:30-9 New American
OCML asks for donations of food, jackets, blankets, tarps, tents, purses, duffel bags, new socks and underwear, and any other item that would be useful for someone living on the street. These food drives are on the first Sunday of every month at the 4th Street Market in Santa Ana. These all-ages shows are free and last from noon until 9. Check out some great music artists and help the homeless.
