Recently renovated to the tune of $16 million, Snow King Resort and Grand View Lodge sit at the base of Snow King Mountain, which opened in 1939 as Wyoming’s first ski resort, and is mere minutes from Grand Teton National Park. Accommodations have lots of elbow room and those fabulous touches you’d expect at a hotel in a western ski town, including metal bison accents on bedposts, western artwork and windows framing glorious mountain views.
Haydens Post Restaurant, which overlooks skiers schussing and tubing, is dishing up a decadent New Year’s Eve dinner featuring slow roasted apple and pear stuffed duck breast, lightly smoked lobster bisque, grilled prime chef hand-cut 10-oz filet mignon and poblano cream cheese stuffed bacon wrapped shrimp with all the sides and finished on a sweet note with your choice of tiramisu, turtle cheesecake or chocolate ganache truffles “2016.” Seatings are at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Dinner reservations: $75 per person.
At the resort, a year-round activity center offers ski, snowboard, mountain bike and other rentals, plus information on nearby trails and all the outdoor activities found in Jackson Hole. Snow King Resort also has a fitness center, day spa and a pool with lots of comfy seating warmed by fire pits.
In town, browse the shops clustered round Jackson Town Square. You can outfit yourself with a pair of custom-made boots and a cowboy hat; pick up woodcarvings, antiques, leather goods, artisan-made jewelry; and find a book to take back to the hotel for reading by the lobby’s double-sided fireplace.
