Sunday’s Notre Dame vs. North Carolina live stream online and televised matchup will be the final game from the 2016 NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight round. As of Sunday night, there should already be three teams in the Final Four of the bracket, with either the Fighting Irish or UNC Tar Heels taking the final spot. On Saturday, both No. 1 seeds fell to the No. 2 seeds, but on Sunday, the No. 1 seeds will be playing lower-ranked seeds, with both games consisting of only ACC teams. Will Notre Dame be able to pull off the upset and get into the Final Four or will Roy Williams’ Tar Heels be too much for them? The Irish vs Tarheels live streaming and TV coverage of this game comes via TBS and March Madness Live networks on Sunday.
According to a March 27 USA Today report, the 31-6 North Carolina Tar Heels are winners of eight-straight and have won their three NCAA Tournament games by a combined 50 points. That includes their Sweet Sixteen victory 101-86 over a tough Indiana Hoosiers squad that took down Kentucky. In that game, UNC guard Marcus Paige finished with 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting with Hoosiers coach Tom Crean saying Paige “played like he was in a video game.” Brice Johnson added 20 points and 10 boards in the win to advance his team to the Elite Eight, where they’ll play a Notre Dame team they split their last two meetings with. The most recent of those was a 78-47 beatdown in the ACC Tournament on the Tar Heels’ way to winning the championship. The Heels scored 24 consecutive points over a 9-1/2-minute stretch to finish off the Fighting Irish easily.
Notre Dame comes into this game having defeated No. 11 seed Michigan 70-63, Cinderella No. 14 seed Stephen F Austin 76-75 and No. 7 seed Wisconsin 61-56. In the win over the Badgers, Notre Dame scored the final eight points of the game to grab the victory. Prior to that, it was a last second tip-in shot by Rex Pflueger that helped them edge the Lumberjacks. The team has been riding the success of V.J. Beacham in the tournament as he’s shot a 20-for-31 rate from the floor and 52.9 percent (9-for-17) from three-point range. Right now, Beacham is averaging 17.7 points per game in the Big Dance, so look for him to try to get going against UNC. Another player to watch for is Demetrius Jackson, who scored 18 against SF Austin and then 16 against the Badgers. Will these two step up and possibly help in a huge upset?
Vegas Insider currently lists UNC as 9-1/2 point favorites on the spread to win tonight with an over/under points total of 153-1/2 points. Going against the spread, Carolina has been 2-1 overall and 2-1 as the favorite, while Notre Dame is 1-2 overall. On the moneyline, ESPN has the Tar Heels at -600 while the Fighting Irish are +450 underdogs. On the future odds list, North Carolina is currently tied with Villanova as the overall favorite to win the National Championship with odds of 13 to 5. Notre Dame is the biggest longshot on the board at 25 to 1, ahead of the first game on Sunday.
