The most exciting piece of news this week comes from Chick-fil-A and its gluten-free bun testing in Seattle, Washington, Idaho, and Jackson, Mississippi from April 4 – June 4. I was able to try a gluten-free bun (maybe the one they are testing, but I don’t know for sure) at Chick-fil-A back in February. The bun was soft without heating, large enough to hold a whole grilled chicken breast, and was served in sealed food service wrap. If this is the same bun, I hope they have figured out a way to heat it because it was quite dry. The manager at this particular location told me almost all of the surveys came back with the same complaint of ‘dry bun’. Only time will tell how the test market affects the roll out of a gluten-free bun to all locations, but with an up charge of just $1.15, it is bound to be successful.

Jumbo cupcakes are back on the menu at 2B Whole Gluten-Free European Bakery in Alpharetta, All of their cupcakes are gluten-free with paleo and vegan options too.
Livingston Restaurant + Bar is now serving Pronto Lunch in addition to their regular lunch menu. This concept and pricing is designed for those who want to enjoy a sit down lunch on a limited schedule. Served Monday through Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., guests can enjoy terrace chicken salad with smoked almonds on local field greens or a hearty smoked brisket cheese steak sandwich (they offer gluten-free bread) and more for the reasonable price of $12.
Oak Steakhouse is having a Patio Oyster Roast Wednesday, April 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Avalon. $15 per person nets one all you can eat oysters and live entertainment with cocktails and wine for purchase.
Sugo Restaurant in John’s Creek has handmade cheese ravioli on its gluten-free menu. The cheese ravioli is served with caramelized red onions, buffalo mozzarella, in lamb bolognese with parmigiano-reggiano and fresh cracked pepper and it is fantastic. Their gluten-free pasta is made fresh daily and can be ordered (in advance) stuffed with other ravioli fillings that are free of dairy. I don’t know of any other restaurant in or around Atlanta making fresh gluten-free pasta that is free of cross contact. Bravo to the Castellucci Hospitality Group.
Beginning Sunday, April 10th, Surf Sweets will be available for purchase at participating Target stores across the United States. What a huge accomplishment for this company and its line of dye-free, peanut-free, artificial flavor free delicious candy.
