Wow, what a great weekend it was! Valentines day was a super success and hopefully you had a great day too! Life is such a great adventure, one that needs to be discovered daily. Food plays such a great part in our journeys, because without food or fuel (energy) we just won’t make it down the trail towards more adventures. So as we move along let us learn a little more about the foods we eat.
“Sugar, sugar, honey, honey. You are my candy girl and you got me wanting you. Honey, honey, sugar, sugar, I am your candy girl and you got me wanting you!” Yes, our country decided a long ago that “Sugar”, was the way to go (that is, the way to get products to “Go” off the shelves and into your stomach)! Sugar has seemed to seep into everything these days and particularly into foods that boast “Healthy”. Virtually everything that you buy from the center of the grocery store has “stuff” in it that you don’t want to consume.
The center of the grocery store is a vast space of deadly foods. Pretty much everything that you want to eat and that is good for your body is on the perimeter of the store. Think about it from produce, meats and seafood, dairy to the bakery all of these things are good for you, proportionately. Now the center of the store: Frozen foods (many preservatives), can goods (bad for you: salt and sugars galore), processed foods (again many more sugars and stuff you don’t want).
Recently in a nutrition class, it was explained that “carbs” are what we should watch each meal. It was explained that a healthy diet for women is 60 grams of carbs per meal and for men about 75 grams per meal. Carbs include sugars and so, it you keep to those numbers, you will keep the rest in line, too! Fats are necessary and good for you, that is, certain fats.
Monounsaturated fats are the best for you, like olive oil and even butter! Fats are necessary because they are like the “Uber” in your system because they transport all of the good stuff to your body. Without fats, your body does not absorb any nutrients and thus, you don’t receive any of the good qualities! Plus, without fats and sugars in your diet, your liver “steps up” to deliver glucose into your system and this glucose is not as good for your body as a natural dose of sugars (glucose).
So, as you can see that a little fat keeps you slim! Literally, by keeping to the amount of grams of carbs per meal and eating three balanced meals everyday, you will see a weight loss like never before and you, my friends, will feel so much better! Eating three meals is essential, too, because your body knows how to metabolize and utilize the foods that you entered into your body. Again, if you mess this up, your liver “kicks in” and supplies your body with what it thinks you need… more glucose! You don’t need more glucose!
Next meal, start counting the carbs! Then throw in a little fat like butter or olive oil. Stop buying food from the center of the store. Sure a little exercise is good, too, to keep the body lean and mean! Start doing these things and you will be heading to the beach in your “string bikini” and looking good! O.K. guys, no string bikini’s for you, wear your board shorts, please!

Life, it is such a tricky beast! Yes beast, we have gone through this before. Sometimes in life, you have to be like “Samson and Goliath!” You have to be wise, cunning and smart enough to out-smart the beast, once in a while along your journey. You can’t let the “beast” (within you) stop you from achieving your goals and aspirations! Remember, if you give up, you may have been just one step away from success and you will never get to experience that, if you give up! So press on, persevere and keep moving forward, like a clock!

Have “Gladitude” it is much better than a “Baditude” and remember to be grateful for everything you do have and for the things that you don’t want to be in your life.
