Nite-Ize 3-in-1 LED flashlights offer more light, more features and more bang for the buck.
Nite-Ize knows flashlights; the company has been producing flashlight accessories since the early 1990’s. They offer three different models of the LED 3-in-1 flashlights but they all share several features. The 250-lumen version is the largest model, next comes the 80-lumen Mini and lastly the 60-lumen Flash stick. All three feature a tough machined aluminum body that incorporates knurling for a superior grip. These 3-in-1 LED flashlights come packed with features. They start with a high-low front light and an innovative sliding front lens head protector that when pulled, opens up and transforms the flashlight into a lantern. At the rear of the flashlights, the 250- and 80-lumen models feature a red safety light with three functions; glow, flash, and SOS. The 60-lumen flash stick comes with an LED glowstick at the rear, is available in three LED colors and offers the same functions as the other two flashlights. The three models are built and balanced so they can be set vertically on either top or bottom. All the flashlights provide slots in the tail cap for lanyard installation and to top it off, they all are sold with the required batteries in the package. The flashlights meet ANSI/NEMA FL1 government standards and all Nite-Ize products feature a worry-free guarantee and a limited lifetime warranty.
Upon receiving samples of these three flashlights, the first feature to like about the product is it comes with the required batteries. Unpacking and installing the batteries commenced. The author then tested the 80-lumen mini and the 60-lumen flash stick while walking at night in the neighborhood. The mini, with a light distance rating of 125feet, met that goal. The LED on the highest setting provides a clear bright light. Put into the lantern mode, it emits a soft glow that would work well for reading in a tent during camping. The safety light is also bright red and three functions worked well. At four and one-half inches long and weighing less than three ounces, this flashlight easily fits into a jacket pocket. The mini was immediately assigned to car duty and is stored in the glove box for quick access. The 60-lumen flash stick, while still offering illumination was seen as more useful for children. The rear plastic glow stick is made of a fairly hard plastic but the threads that connect it to the flashlight were not holding up well after being screwed on and off several times. The 250-lumen model got its first workout during a night of parking cars at a winery event. This is a great flashlight and is very bright, with a range of over six hundred feet. It was easily able to light the way to the far reaches of the parking area. All that power is packed into a flashlight that only weighed a bit over nine ounces. The lantern function worked especially well all night as a beacon. This allowed the drivers to see the author without being blinded by the flashlight. The light was as bright after two hours as when the night began. Suggested battery life of over three hours seems correct. The 250-lumen flashlight has become the go-to home safety light; ready to illuminate the way in an emergency.
The combination of features packed into these Nite-Ize flashlights offer a good investment. Any of these flashlights would be a great addition, along with extra batteries, in earthquake kits in homes or vehicles. The 250-lumen model and the Mini are good choices for general flashlight needs, including camping.
