The NIT 2016 Selection Show live stream online and televised bracket reveal arrives on Sunday evening right after the tournament brackets for the “Big Dance” were shown. There will be snubbed teams that were left out of the larger tournament who will now receive entry to the National Invitation Tournament. Whether or not the teams will play with motivation to win the NIT is another story, although some have found this tourney to be a good way to build towards their future. The 2016 NIT Selection Show live streaming and TV presentation will be available through ESPN networks on Sunday night.
According to Asbury Park Press on March 13, one of the biggest snubs from the NCAA Tournament field this year was Monmouth who failed to make the field of 68. Also failing to make it to the Big Dance was St. Mary’s and St. Bonaventure, as well as San Diego State and Valparaiso. That means all of these schools will be dancing in the NIT instead. They’ll likely be among high seeds and host home court matchups to start things off. Other teams which may be involved in this smaller tournament could include notables like Clemson, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Alabama and Washington. That all will be announced during the annual special which may not quite be as popular as the Selection Sunday show but certainly holds importance for teams with something still to prove.
The NIT field will consist of a total of 32 teams all together, split amongst the brackets. They’ll compete in single elimination games round-by-round and eventually move from their home campus sites to Madison Square Garden in New York City. The basketball arena has been the home of the NIT Championship for years now and will serve that purpose once again. This year, someone will look to capture the crown that Stanford won in 2015. However, some teams may find motivation lacking when it comes to this smaller tournament. Expect to see smaller schools like Wagner, Akron, High Point, North Florida and IPFW competing for the right to call themselves NIT champions in 2016. Sunday’s NIT Selection Show for 2016 will get started at approximately 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Live television coverage will be made available on ESPNU channel in the United States. To watch the live streaming online presentation, U.S. cable and satellite subscribers can log into WatchESPN website or mobile apps where available. There’s also likely to be an on demand replay available on the WatchESPN service after the event has ended Sunday night.
