A report from Nikkei – cited by My Nintendo News on April 28, has stated that Nintendo will provide information regarding the NX’s price, launch software, and other key details by the end of 2016. The company previously confirmed that the NX will not be shown at E3 2016 nor will it release in 2016 as it is currently slated for release in early 2017. Thus far, only Zelda Wii U – or Zelda NX – has been confirmed for release on the new system. Clearly; there is a lot to hear and learn about NX before it sees release in March 2017.
Tatsumi Kimishima, president of Nintendo, issued a statement that detailed Nintendo’s plans in addressing NX going forward. Aside from confirmed that the company has no plan to show NX at E3 2016, he continued to add that Nintendo will officially introduce NX later this year. Once the NX is introduced, Nintendo will then take the opportunity to discuss the features, price, and software lineup for the NX launch.
Given that NX won’t release until March 2017, the timing of such an event would likely take place in late 2016. This could prove beneficial to the company as it would allow Nintendo to use the event to excite gamers and then carry that momentum to the NX launch.
Kimishima previously explained that NX would launch in 2017 so that the system would have games ready for launch. Rumors and speculation expect the NX to launch with Zelda NX and a new 3D Mario game, with Super Smash Bros. NX not long after. Unfortunately we still have quite the long wait ahead of us before we learn about NX and its launch software.
