Super Bowl 50 is all set as the Denver Broncos will be facing the Carolina Panthers in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Here is a list of the betting odds and lines for Super Bowl 50 plus the over/under for the game.
There are a ton of story lines around Super Bowl 50. The Carolina Panthers are trying to win the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. Peyton Manning is trying to win the Super Bowl for just the second time in his long career. The Denver Broncos are trying to win their third Super Bowl and they have already tied the record for most Super Bowl appearances at eight.
- Denver Broncos +4.5 vs Carolina Panthers (O/U is 45)
In the betting odds for Super Bowl 50, the Carolina Panthers are a clear favorite as they are favored by 4.5 points to beat the Denver Broncos in the big game. The Panthers have easily been the most dominant team in the NFL this season as they are now 17-1 on the season and they won both their playoff games in pretty convincing fashion.
The Denver Broncos are now 14-4 this season but the Broncos did not win either of their playoff games in convincing fashion. Denver barely beat Pittsburgh 23-16, and if not for a fortunate fumble late in the 4th quarter of that game by the Steelers the Broncos would probably have lost the game.
The Broncos had to hold on for dear life to beat the New England Patriots, 20-18, in the AFC Championship game. The win was 100% attributable to the Broncos pass rush which disrupted Tom Brady for the whole game. Despite the tremendous pressure the Patriots were just a two-point conversion away from sending the game into OT.
Even with his win over the Patriots in the AFC Championship game, Peyton Manning’s lifetime record as a starting QB in the NFL playoffs is just 13-13. Manning has two playoff wins this season but he’s completed just 55% of his passes over the two games and he has just two TD passes in the games. Super Bowl 50 will be Peyton Manning’s 4th Super Bowl and he has not played particularly well over the previous three as he’s thrown more interceptions (4) than TDs (3) and his record is just 1-2.
Cam Newton is now 3-2 as a starting QB in the NFL playoffs. He’s completed 70% of his passes in his two playoff wins this season and has three TD passes and two rushing TDs in the two games. Cam Newton is making his Super Bowl debut in Super Bowl 50.
The Carolina Panthers are deserving favorites in Super Bowl 50. They have been the most dominant team in the NFL for the 2015 season. The Denver Broncos have a 14-4 record but they have not been a dominating team this season. Eleven of the Broncos 14 wins were by eight points or less and three of their wins were in OT.
It’s hard to see the Denver Broncos winning Super Bowl 50 and it’s not that hard to see the game turning into a blow out for the Carolina Panthers.
