Goldfish Swim School opened its doors during its Grand Opening on March 20. This location is the first and only location in the Dayton area. Known for its many locations in Michigan and Cleveland, the swim school owners are excited to be a part of the community. Its new facility is located at 671 Lyons Rd., Centerville. Goldfish Swim School prides itself in being a leading water safety and swimming lesson school in the Ohio region.
“I’ve been able to see first-hand how my own children have benefitted from lessons at Goldfish Swim School,” Goldfish Swim School Owner Mike Meilleur said. “I know the Goldfish Swim School model is the best one out there and I am excited to bring the curriculum and systems to our brand new, state-of-the-art swimming facility here in Dayton.”
Goldfish Swim School was established in 2006 by a husband and wife team, Jenny and Chris McCuiston. Goldfish Swim School provides swim lessons and water safety instruction to infants and children ages four months to 12 years. Classes are offered by specially trained instructors in a safe, kid-friendly and fun environment. The new water school will be offering infant and child swim lessons in its new 8,600 square foot space next to the Antique Mall and Sam’s Club just minutes from the Dayton Mall.
“We’re so excited to be here in the Centerville area,” Goldfish Swim School Service Manager Amy Strozier said. “All of our instructors have kids of their own and treat all visitors as if they were their own children.”
Since its initial opening in 2006, the school’s popularity has skyrocketed making it possible for more and more pools to open in new areas. Goldfish currently teaches more than 31,000 students per week the importance of water safety and learn to swim. The company’s headquarter is based in Birmingham, Michigan. Goldfish Swim School opened its first franchise in 2009 in Farmington Hills, Michigan and is in the process of expanding franchise opportunities throughout the country. Currently, there are over 30 schools open or in development in ten states.
“All the managerial staff went to Birmingham for extensive training. Some of our staff members have lifeguard backgrounds, some of them don’t. Some of them are education majors while others just have a passion for helping kids. But, they are all energetic, patient and great with kids. We truly have a great team at this location,” said Strozier.
Goldfish Swim School provides swim instruction to children ages 4 months to 12 years-old in a unique setting with highly trained instructors, small class sizes (max 4:1 student to teacher ratio), warm 90-degree pools, and a state-of-the-art water purification system. Families with kids of different ages and skill levels can conveniently have all of their swimmers in the pool during the same half hour time slot. Parents can relax in the lodge where the whole pool is visible at all times. Classes can be tailored to the individuals needs of each child, depending on the goals and expectations.
“We aren’t licensed for special needs, but we can accommodate them and develop a swimming plan especially for them. We would let their needs dictate the path of their instructions,” Strozier said.
In addition to swim lessons, Goldfish offers weekly family swims (for both members and non-members) and party packages. Facility highlights include an air conditioned viewing gallery for parents to watch lessons, a spacious family dressing area with private changing rooms, snack bar, retail shop and warm, tropical décor.
The school provides party packages for up to 46 children. Each package provides two hours of private access to the facility and pool, certified lifeguards on duty for all pool activities, invitations and thank you notes, table coverings, plates, cups, napkins, forks, cupcakes and beverages, and a Goldfish T-shirt for the birthday child.
