To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise, Nintendo just announced the newest games getting ready to make their debut; and they look amazing.
Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon will be the newest additions to the Pokemon family. This divulgence comes right on the heels of Nintendo premiering, not only a brand new Pokemon but an all new concept for it as well. Nintendo introduced players to a sneak peek of Magearna, the next evolution in the Pokemon chain that could potentially change the world of Pokemon and Pokemon gaming forever.
We’ve learned so far that Magearna, while a new character for the viewers and players, is actually a completely man-made, artificial Pokemon made by humans over 500 years ago. There isn’t a lot known about Magearna yet, besides the fact that it was made in a laboratory 500+ years earlier than the current Pokemon timeline. It has a metallic body, which is said to weigh 177.5lbs, is 3ft and 3in tall, and has advanced artificial intelligence.
Fans of the highly popular game series have been waiting patiently for a new addition, and from what we’ve gathered so far, they will not be disappointed.
Nintendo released some information about Magearna, but have yet to introduce it or give any more details. However, Magearna will be fully unveiled with the newest upcoming movie: Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Ingenious Magearna. Heavier details have been sparse, but we do know that it is set to release later this year, (2016), and will explain the origins and life of the man-made Pokemon Magearna.
It has also been stated that the movie will shed some light on the previously released Pokemon Volcanion. While he isn’t new to the 7th generation, he is a new Pokemon with a lot of darkness shadowed around him.
The premise of Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Ingenious Magearna so far is that Ash embarks on a strange new mission, one unlike anything he has ever known. For reasons still yet to be explained, Volcanion falls to Earth in a huge cloud of dust. Some mystical forces lock Volcanion and Ash’s souls together, making it impossible to separate. Volcanion, still quite sore at humans, also slightly unexplained, and Ash, the guy that’s up for anything when it comes to Pokemon, have to stay and work together to free the imprisoned Magearna.
It is believed an evil minister in a mechanical town of gears and cogs, has stolen, (or perhaps kidnapped), the, believed to be, mythical Magearna. He is set to use it to fulfill his dark desire to take over the town, and possibly the world. Now, Ash and Volcanion have to find a way to work together to save Magearna before it’s too late.
Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Ingenious Magearna has been announced for a Japanese release of July 16 2016. Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon have simply been drummed for a 2016 “holiday” release. Likely this means around Christmas time.
The details of Sun and Moon aren’t quite known yet, only that they will introduce new Pokemon. While details are still light as of yet it is known that players will have an all new world to explore and battle in. There will be 3 new starter Pokemon to choose from and new Pokemon to catch, battle and trade.
Perhaps the biggest announcement, however, is that players will finally be able to trade their beloved Pokemon from any older game, to their newest one! This is a feature that fans have wanted to see for many years. They got a small piece of luck when Nintendo launched the Pokemon Bank, but were quickly disappointed when they discovered that it would not only cost money to use, but it wouldn’t allow the transfer of Pokemon below Black and White.
The new transfer system will allow the trading of any Pokemon from any other Pokemon game caught in the digital 2 or 3DS versions of the game. So players that have any earlier titles that were updated to the 2 and 3DS will be able to finally move their ‘Red’, ‘Yellow’, ‘Black’, ‘Ruby’, or any generation Pokemon straight up to their ‘Sun’ or ‘Moon’ versions.
A few key details we want to know, but are still in the dark about:
- How does the new transfer system work?
- What will the battle structure be?
- How many new Pokemon will we be getting?
- Will there be any more arenas or global trade systems?
- Who will our new allies and enemies be?
A rundown of what is actually known about all the new content:
- There will be new Pokemon to capture and battle with.
- There will be a new world to explore.
- There will be new characters to make friends, allies and enemies with.
- The newest Pokemon, Magearna will be seen and explained.
- The elusive Pokemon Volcanion will be a key component in the movie and game.
- Pokemon caught in any digital version of any previous Pokemon games, (all the way down to Red, Green and Blue), will be trade-able to the new version.
- A fresh new story line will emerge; bringing brand new life back into the 20 year old franchise!
It was a smart move on Nintendo’s part to choose to release the games around the holidays. There will likely be a lot of these games under Christmas trees and stuffing stockings this year.
