Taking a cruise is not a cheap adventure. However, once you pay for all of our fares and some extras, it can be a rather affordable on board experience. Those extras you want when taking a cruise, such as shore excursions, spa treatments, photographs and souvenirs can add up. However, if you book your cruise far enough in advance you can work little by little paying for these activities in advance. Thus meaning you do not need to take much money with you on your cruise.
Here are some tips to make it possible to bring little to no money with you on your next Carnival Cruise:
Prepay for everything before you leave. Make a list of things you want to do and get and go ahead and pay for them in advance. Everything from spa services to photo packages and bottomless bubbles to shore excursions can be paid for before you ever leave to go on your cruise. Paying for these in advance will allow you to pay for a little at a time and only get the items you can afford to get. If you are going to be on a tight budget before going on your cruise, make a list of what you want and if you cannot pay for it all you may have to remove items from your list.
There are many things on board that you can skip if you do not want to have to pay for them. Though they may be fun to enjoy, you really do not need to have that back massage or expensive hair style on board the ship. Another item that can easily be skipped is paying for Internet service while sailing. Take the break from life and disconnect from anything electronic. It will all be there when you return. When not wanting to spend money you will want to skip the photos Carnival offers to take for you. Instead grab another passenger, a server or other staff member to take the photo of your group for you. Avoiding the casino will also help reduce the need to have money with you when cruising.
Take the time to kick back and relax on board. There is no additional cost to sit on a lounger and enjoy the beautiful seascape. Take this time to read a book, enjoy the company of others and relax.
Enter to win
Take the time to go to the different demonstrations available on board. Some of these demonstrations offer raffles and drawings for participants. You never know. You might find yourself winning a gift certificate to the spa or a piece of art at the art auction (shipping costs may apply when winning a piece of art from the art auction). You never know what you can win and be able to enjoy for free during your cruise.
Do it all
Okay, you might not be able to do it all, but you can enjoy just about everything that is included with your cruise fare. Attend shows, fill up at the buffets, pick the best restaurants to dine in that are included and join in on all of the festivities and events on board. Other exciting things you can do that are included with your cruise fare include In Room Dining and the jewelry presentations. Rule of thumb here…if it’s included…do it.
Alter shore excursion plans
If you are able to budget for your shore excursions before you leave for your cruise, make the time to book them early. The earlier you book your shore excursions the greater the chance there will be availability and they are already paid for. So if something comes up just before leaving, you can still enjoy the ports of call the way you planned to.
However, if money will be tight, you do not have to book expensive shore excursions. In fact, you do not even have to spend any money ashore if you do not want to. Some ports of call have parks and other attractions nearby that do not cost anything to explore. Take advantage of those. If exploring the ports of call are not of interest to you, consider just getting off the ship long enough to take some photos and say that you were there. Then get back on the ship and enjoy everything the ship has to offer. This is a great time to enjoy the ship because most of the other travelers will be ashore. It might feel like you have the ship to yourself.
Get a gift card
To help purchase some of the additional items on board the ship you can purchase gift cards to limit the amount you spend. These gift cards be used in the gift stores or applied to your room account. This is a great option for those who do not want to carry cash or put a credit card down on their room.
Though these are not ways to help you save money when cruising with Carnival, they do offer solutions to help make it possible to not need to bring a lot of money with you on the cruise. Prepaying for a lot of activities will help, while being prepared to skip some activities will also help reduce the need to have to bring cash or have extra money left available on your credit cards before boarding.
