Jerry Palm of CBS Sports released his updated NCAA Tournament projections on Wednesday. Due to the Michigan State Spartans losing their first game of the season, Palm had a new team as the overall No.1 seed.
The Oklahoma Sooners are (11-0) this season, but haven’t started their conference slate yet. Interestingly enough, the Sooners will face Iowa State in the Big 12 opener. Therefore, the Sooners reign at the top of the NCAA Tournament projections could be short lived.
Palm has a newly projected No.1 seed as well. The Xavier Musketeers have been on fire since the start of the season. Like the Sooners, the Musketeers’ biggest games will come at the start of the Big East season. They face Villanova, and Butler in back to back games. A pair of wins will solidify the Musketeers as one of the favorites to earn a No.1 seed by the time March Madness rolls around.
Here are the Top 4 seeds in each region.
1. Xavier Musketeers
2. Purdue Boilermakers
3. Iowa State Cyclones
4. Utah Utes
A couple of weeks ago, the Utah Utes were trending downward in the NCAA Tournament projections. After their win over Duke, the Utes ascended to a top four seed. Currently, they’ve set themselves up to be a major player in the PAC-12.
Sleeper Team- Stony Brook.
1. Michigan State Spartans
2. Butler Bulldogs
3. North Carolina Tar Heels
4. Dayton Flyers
The Spartans loss to Iowa was not much of a surprise. Without Denzel Valentine in the lineup, everyone figured Michigan State would lose a game, so they’ll have plenty of time to recapture the status as college basketball’s best team.
The Butler Bulldogs are also looking highly impressive this season. This team scores points in bunches, and they should help cultivate an intriguing Big East season.
Sleeper Team- Harvard:
1. Kansas Jayhawks
2. Providence Friars
3. Miami Hurricanes
4. Arizona Wildcats
The Kansas Jayhawks lone loss came against the Michigan State Spartans. Otherwise, they’ve handled their schedule extremely well. The most intriguing team has to be Providence. The Friars may have the best player in the country. Point guard Kris Dunn is electrifying, and he has the ability to lead the Friars to the Final Four.
Sleeper Team- Wichita State
1. Oklahoma Sooners
2. Virginia Cavaliers
3. Maryland Terrapins
4. Kentucky Wildcats
The Kentucky Wildcats will likely be the most intriguing team in whatever region they are in. As conference play looms, the Wildcats are presented as a No.4 seed. A potential match up with the No.5 seed Iowa Hawkeyes could be one of the more exciting games of the NCAA Tournament.
Sleeper Team- Texas:
Now that conference play is heating up, there will be even more changes during the weekly NCAA Tournament projections. Still, the teams at the top seem to have set their season’s up nicely.
