The ACC did not start the Sweet 16 on a good note, but they have a chance to make amends on Friday. The Duke Blue Devils and Miami Hurricanes were ousted from the tournament, leaving four more games featuring ACC teams vying for an Elite 8 berth.
With the top seeds winning the first four Sweet 16 games, the ACC should feel good about their chances. The ACC has higher seeds in all of Friday’s games, so they hope the trend continues. However, these East and Midwest region have a bit of bracket buster looming.
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski chastises Oregon’s Dillon Brooks.
In the Midwest region, the No. 1 seeded Virginia Cavaliers are facing No. 4 Iowa State Cyclones. Just like the match ups last night, both teams spent time in the Top 10 of the AP Top 25 poll, so this should be a highly competitive game. In addition, Virginia is not known for blowing teams out. With the way Iowa State can score, the Cyclones can be a trendy pick to pull off the upset.
The following game features the only two double digit seeds left in the NCAA Tournament. The No. 10 Syracuse Orange face the No. 11 Gonzaga Bulldogs. Coming into the game, the Bulldogs are the slight favorite despite posing as the lower seed.
In the East, the No. 7 Wisconsin Badgers had the best win of any team in the first two rounds. They defeated the Xavier Musketeers in a thrilling finish. Meanwhile, the No. 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish came to the Sweet 16 party on a game winning tip-in by Rex Pflueger. One of these teams will have a chance to storm the Final Four party in Houston.
Finally, the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels and the No. 4 Indiana Hoosiers get back to action on TBS. The Tar Heels have played well in the first half, but dominated second halves of games. The Hoosiers must hit their 3-point shots, while limiting the Tar Heels from easy transition buckets.
