“Dateline” is an investigative program focusing on crime & murder in the United States. “Over the edge” was reported and narrated by Andrea Canning.
“Over the edge” opened with Anna-Kate who still writes letters to her aunt Toni who had died. Toni was a doctor who took a trip with her husband Harold in Denver, Colorado. They went hiking on the rocky mountain national park. It was their 12th wedding anniversary in September of 2012. He called 911 emergency saying that Toni fell off a cliff.
Harold told the 911 operator that Toni was at the bottom of “deer mountain.” She was unconscious, but was faintly breathing. Park rangers had to hike up the trail which would take several hours. The 911 operator tried to walk Harold through CPR. He kept texting Toni’s younger brother saying that it was a bad situation.
Two hours after Harold called 911. The park rangers finally got up to him and Toni. She was already dead. The leading cause of death is falling inside the rocky mountain national park. The rangers would ask all hikers to stay on the trails. Harold said there was too many people. So, him and Toni walked off the trail and climbed around “deer mountain.” They reached the mountain peak and Harold wanted to take a picture of Toni. She stood on a rocky point and he said she fell off.
Harold’s first wife Lynn also died several years earlier in a freak accident.
