With the beta of the multiplayer of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, the team over at Naughty Dog ran some broadcasts on their official Twitch channel. For those of us who got to tune in, they provided a sneak peek at what we can expect in the multiplayer mode of the game. The beta launched on December 4th for those who picked up the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, which is a compilation of all three previous Uncharted games on one disc for the PlayStation 4.
During PlayStation Experience, the team offered the attendees some hands-on time with the demo, which took place the day after the beta launched. Photos of their amazing booth set up can be seen HERE. They also had it available to play at Paris Games Week, PAX Australia, and at Lisboa Games Week, which all took place before the release of the beta.
While it was fun for those who were watching, Naughty Dog stated they had a lot of fun broadcasting, as well. So much so, that they revealed they will be starting a regular broadcast, with the first one of 2016 taking place next week, Tuesday, January 12, starting at 11:30 am PT / 20:30 UTC. They also graciously included a link to find out what time that translates to in various time zones, as well. Plus, their first broadcast will include a speedrun of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune completed by one of their own!
Naughty Dog’s Arne Meyer shared:
For our first broadcast, we’re tackling a speedrun of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, using the PS4 version from Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. We’ve got some very good, highly competitive speedrunners amongst us at Naughty Dog, and they’re going to do their best to rise to the challenge and set a solid speedrun time live during our broadcast. I wouldn’t miss out on this.
This promises to be good! There are also a number of systems that are completely unique to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Multiplayer, in which Naughty Dog’s Lead Game Designer, Robert Cogburn, shared previously on PlayStation Blog:
- Sidekicks: When you are in a pinch you can call in your friendly Sidekick to help you. These are unique, AI controlled characters that come equipped with unique abilities that can help turn the tide of a battle.
- Mysticals: These are supernatural abilities from the Uncharted series that give a player unique powers. See if you can recognize what Mystical abilities we are showing off in the trailer.
- Last, you will be able to leverage the grappling hook in a number of locations in our multiplayer maps. We have also heavily leveraged this exciting mechanic for our melee. Yes, you will be able to land on people and take them out –would you expect less?
Make sure to check what time it starts and tune in to Twitch.tv/NaughtyDog next week!
