Police in Texas are now searching for a woman in SWAT gear seen inside the church were a mom of three and a fitness trainer was found murdered. Today police believe they are looking for a woman instead of a man as previously thought. The suspect in this killing donned SWAT gear and is seen on the video surveillance cameras from that church walking around inside shortly before the mom of three arrived.
Teri Bevers, 45, was scheduled to teach an early morning fitness class at the Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian, which is about 25 miles outside of Dallas. It was 5 a.m. when one of her students found Bevers dead inside the church, reports Fox News on April 19.
“We are backing off our statement that the suspect on video was a man I know we said ‘he’ over and over again yesterday, and that was a mistake. There’s a lot of speculation based on the gait and appearance that this person may be a woman,” a Midlothian Police Department spokesperson told the media last night.
The motion-activated surveillance cameras inside the church caught a suspect decked out in full tactical gear walking around inside the church before Bevers’ body was found. The person was dressed to look like a police officer, but the helmet and bulky uniform didn’t offer a clue as to this person’s identity. According to WFLA News today, this person in SWAT gear may have killed Teri Bevers.
While the police thought at first that they were looking for a man, something changed to now lead them in the direction of looking for a woman who was dressed in the SWAT-like uniform. This person was first picked up by the cameras at around 3:50 a.m. and they appeared to have a tool in their hand, a type of tool used to break windows or force open doors. While there was signs of forced entry to the church, nothing was reported to be missing.
Bevers is seen on the camera about 30 minutes after the suspect was first seen. She had come to the church early to set up for her class. Bevers cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office. Police have not ruled-out that Bevers was a targeted victim of this horrendous crime.
Midlothian Police Chief Carl Smith said, “It’s just an odd random situation that they would actually happen to come into a building that was being burglarized on a Monday morning. This is an extremely unusual situation for the city of Midlothian. We have a very safe community. In fact, it’s going to be the first event of my tenure here in almost ten years. Nothing like this happened here before.”
