The most-recent episode of Food Network “Mystery Diners” was titled, “Vicious Valets.” Charles Stiles and his crew came to Brooklyn, to meet with Kitty Hernandez owner of Breuckelen Colony in Park Slope. Because avvy people caught on to the actors, Charles formerly used in his capers, he had to choose a different way to catch those who are out to ruin their employers’ business.
Charles met with Kitty because her customers were getting parking tickets while they used the valet service for the restaurant. Because parking in Brooklyn is at a premium, she hired a valet service so her patrons could dine in peace, knowing they would not get tickets. Now when people come back with tickets, they receive, they expect her to pay for them. She also mentioned that her water bill had increased dramatically over the same time. She checked with the water company who assured her that they did not raise their rates, but her consumption has increased. She knows that nothing in the restaurant has changed, and asked Charles to check it out. He told her that he would wire the place and install hidden cameras. Daniel, the private investigator that arrived with Charles told her he would do background checks on her employees.
For the Sting, they set up the control room close to the restaurant. She was able to see all areas of the place. They were focusing on Mark, her manager, inside employees and Sly and Paul the valet guys. The restaurant employees checked out to be clean, but her contract with Vic’s Valet Service expired two months ago and although Sly and Paul are still wearing the Vic’s shirts, they are no longer employed by Vic’s Valet. The two guys are parking cars illegally, have a business license, no insurance and if something happens, she will be responsible. She called Vic to hear his side of the story and Vic told her that Mark terminated their contract two months ago. A surveillance van followed the next car that was parked next to a fire hydrant. Kitty knows that the meter maids come out of the bushes to ticket cars in Brooklyn and sure enough, they got a ticket. The next car was also parked by a fire hydrant as Kitty watched; she was appalled. When a car was parked under a makeshift tent, they seemed to have a pop-up car wash.
Charles had his associate, Jamie pull up to the restaurant as a customer to see what would happen. Meanwhile, Mark was taking produce and other items in the restaurant, put them in a bag and told the valet guys to take them to the carwash. Jamie pulled up to the restaurant and was told that valet parking was $6, but because it is raining, they will do an interior organic cleaning for a total of $10. Jamie questioned the organic aspect and was told they used lemons and olive oil, and other items stolen from the restaurant. Not only were they stealing her money, but they were stealing her food to do it. Next, they spotted the carwash guys coming into the restaurant filling up buckets with water. A tow truck was spotted towing a car they parked by a fire hydrant. Finally, Kitty went to get Mark. He tried to weasel out of it, but she fired him anyway. She got Vic’s Valet back and has regained her reputation, thanks to Charles and his staff of “Mystery Diners.”
