Tonight’s TLC follow-up episode of the hit “My 600-Lb. Life” gave viewers a glimpse of the life today of two of the morbidly obese people and their one-year journey of ups and downs leading to their weight loss. As viewers followed along each month of their weigh-ins, they saw joy and frustration as they faced Dr. Nowzaradan and heard his straight-forward critique of their progress. This episode focuses on Melissa and Ashley in the second year of their weight-loss journey. Viewers will get a chance to see what has gone on in the lives of these people who took a chance on a doctor who believed in them. For over ten years, “My 600-Lb. Life” has followed 34 people who collectively lost over 8,000 pounds. This episode follows two of them; Melissa who weighed 653 pounds ten years ago and three years after surgery, she defied the odds and lost almost 500 pounds. At ten years and one month, her current weight is 275 with a goal weight of 150 pounds. Her dream was to lose enough weight to have a child, and now she has two children. At her last weight check, she weighed about 275 from her pregnancy weight. Besides her own two children, she has her niece and nephew to take care of, who now live with them. She plans to return to seeing Dr. Nowzaradan to get his help to return to her goal weight.
Ashley weighed 617 before her weight-loss surgery. In seven years, Ashley lost 364 pounds. Her biggest supporter was her father, who died of cancer. At ten years and one month, her last-known weight was 253 with a goal weight of 140 pounds. After her father died, her mother sold the house and lives with Ashley’s younger sister. Ashley lives with a friend, and she works to repair her relationship with her mother. Her father was proud of her weight-loss and encouraged her, while her mother did the opposite. She has always loved taking care of kids and hopes to finish her studies to open her own daycare. Her dream stalled when her weight loss stopped. She wants to get back to see Dr. Nowzaradan to have skin surgery for her very large legs.
At 10 years & two months, Melissa is on the way to see Dr. Nowzaradan. She weighs 290 pounds and is pregnant with baby number three. The doctor knows that she will continue to gain if he does not monitor her. He wants her to lose ten pounds in the next two months. The timing of this pregnancy is not good as, she and Chris are not getting along.
At 10 years & three months, Ashley is on her way to see Dr. Nowzaradan for the first time in three years. She weighs 312 pounds. He wants her to lose 30 pounds the next time he sees her to get back on track for the skin surgery.
It has been six weeks since Melissa saw Dr. Nowzaradan, and he wants her to lose ten pounds. She made ham and biscuits for the family, and she is eating cottage cheese. She is going to fight to keep her family going even though Chris gives her no moral support.
At ten years & four months, Ashley is at her family’s house making dinner three nights a week. When her mother gives her a hard time, she feels that her whole family is ganging up on her.
Melissa is weighing in at Dr. Nowzaradan’s office and lost 9 pounds weighing 281. He wants her to weigh less after the baby arrives than when she got pregnant.
At 10 years & five months, Ashley is seeing Dr. Nowzaradan and hopes she lost the 30 pounds he expected. She only lost 2 pounds weighing 310. She is going to listen to the doctor and lose the weight, or she will be back where she started.
At 10 years & six months, Melissa is returning to the doctor’s office for a meeting of some of his patients. She went to the doctor, and her blood pressure was much too high, and they decided to deliver the baby.
At 10 years & nine months, Melissa is home with her baby boy, and she is going to see the doctor soon.
Ashley is having lunch with her mother today. She and her mother are getting along better, and her mother is giving her the support she needs.
At 10 years & 10 months, Melissa is working out to help her lose weight faster. She is determined to lose the weight in the next two months.
At 10 years & 11 months, Ashley is walking with her mother and together; they are preparing healthy meals.
At 11 years, Ashley is at Dr. Nowzaradan’s office for her weigh-in. She weighs 272 with a loss of 40 pounds. He was happy and told her to stick with the program, so she can be less than 200 pounds and have the surgery on her legs.
Melissa is still losing weight and sees the doctor in two weeks. She is getting a new hair style and becoming the Melissa she wants to be. When she got on the scale, she weighed 252 with a loss of 38 pounds. Dr. Nowzaradan made her cry because he told her how proud he was of her. She is no longer with Chris and her and the kids are doing fine on this episode of “My 600-Lb. Life: Where Are They Now?”
