Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards 2016 live stream pre-show and televised awards show will arrive with “the force” attempting to regain its hold on the movie universe. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be the movie with the most nominations with superhero flick “Deadpool” also up in there with the nominees. The show will feature 14 total categories for nominees and two special awards handed out as well. With comedian Kevin Hart and actor Dwayne Johnson hosting, it’s likely to be a fun and funny ceremony as well. The 2016 MTV Movie Awards live streaming pre-show coverage and TV presentation come via MTV networks.
According to E! Online in their April 8 report, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” leads all movies with a total of 11 nominations. That includes the coveted “Movie of the Year” award where it will be up against blockbuster heavyweights such as “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Jurassic World,” and “Deadpool.” “Creed” and “Straight Outta Compton” which were pretty much snubbed from the Oscars this past year will also be in the competition. The newest “Star Wars” film, the seventh in the ongoing series, will also have its star actors such as Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver, who played Rey and Kylo Ren, respectively, up for awards.
MTV’s Movie Awards includes several categories one will never see at the Academy Awards, such as “Best Kiss,” “Best Fight,” and “Best Action Performance.” It seems only fitting that there’s also a “Best Comedic Performance” category which features Amy Schumer, Kevin Hart, Melissa McCarthy, Rebel Wilson, Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell, all of whom were not nominees at the Academy Awards. MTV has also added a “True Story” category in which many of the movies that were nominated at the Oscars are included such as “Joy,” “Steve Jobs,” “Straight Outta Compton,” “The Big Short” and “The Revenant.”
Two special achievement awards will be handed out as well. Actor Will Smith will get the “Generations Award” for his impressive work in movies over the years. Actress and comedian Melissa McCarthy will receive this year’s “Comedic Genius Award.” Also during the show, which was held on Saturday and will be telecast Sunday, viewers get exclusive looks at footage, scenes or teasers for the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War,” “Suicide Squad,” and “Fantastic Beasts” films. Arianna Grande will perform her newest song “Dangerous Woman,” while singer Halsey will perform “Castle.”
Sunday night’s MTV Movie Awards 2016 event will begin at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. Live television coverage is not available as the awards were pre-taped Saturday, but the telecast will be shown on MTV Sunday. A live streaming online pre-show called “Couch Commentary” begins at 7:30 p.m. ET via MTV’s website or mobile apps. See more information at the MTV.com website for how to watch tonight’s show and it’s live online extras, or for information on replays of the awards show in the coming days.
