A new approach to a time honored classic is what the word is about the broadcast of “Grease: Live” tonight, Jan. 31. The musical, which has been on Broadway and in movie theaters will be shown live this evening beginning at 7:00 p.m.ET and 4:00 p.m. on the West Coast on FOX networks. The creative team of this production are saying that this will be an updated version and it will have a live audience who will participate in the performance. The presentation will have scenes both indoor and outdoors.
Broadway veteran Aaron Tveit will play Danny and “Dancing with the Stars” Julianne Hough will play Sandy. The cast also includes Andrew Call as Sonny, David DelRio as Putzie, Kether Donohue as Jan, Jordan Fisher as Doody, Ana Gastever as the Principal, Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo, Carly Roe Jepsen as Frenchie, Mario Lopez as Vince Fontaine, Carlos PenaVega as Kenickie, Eve Plum as Mrs. Murdock, and KeKe Palmer as Marty.
Broadway writers Robert Cary and Jonathan Tolins have written this television adaptation based on the original musical “Grease” by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, and Paramount Pictures’ 1978 feature adaptation. The event is being billed as more of a hybrid between film and stage.
