From the band’s inception in 1995, Motograter has endeavored to be different. Founding member Bruce “Grater” Butler invented the band’s namesake instrument, the Motograter, designed with industrial cable and guitar pieces to create a unique low, distorted bass sound for the band, and members performed in tribal body paint. Motograter’s 1998 debut EP, Hugh Chardon, and their 2000 follow-up EP, Indy, earned the band a loyal following. In 2003, the band released their first full-length effort, simply entitled Motograter. The album produced the hit singles “Suffocate” and “Down” (featured video).
Despite a hiatus, a break-up, and a number of member changes, Motograter has soldiered on. The band released an third EP in 2009 and a greatest hits compilation in 2015. Motograter is currently working on a second full-length studio album due out sometime later this year. The band has taken the stage with some of the top bands in the business, playing with the likes of Slipknot, Ozzy Osbourne, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Chevelle, Disturbed, Ministry, and others.
