Morgan Freeman and Justin Bieber make strange bedfellows, but when Freeman recently read the lyrics for Bieber’s “Love Yourself” song, things got even stranger! That deep masculine voice of Freeman’s in a tone of authority reciting Bieber’s lyrics was hysterical. To hear Freeman say these lines, which includes, “oh, girl or goodness sake, you think I’m crying on my own,” turns out to be quite the comedy vocal skit.
It is the folks from Vanity Fair that taped Freeman while reading these lyrics. The Hollywood icon was out and about promoting his up and coming film “London Has Fallen” when he literally took a page out of Justin Bieber’s life, or his life in music. As People Magazine reports on March 5, “watching Morgan Freeman recite Justin Bieber lyrics is just as fantastic as it sounds.”
At one point, Freeman stops for a dramatic pause and this is enough to evoke a belly laugh from even those who lack a sense of humor! Can you picture Freeman’s deep voice and serious face as he brings forth the words, “For all the times that you rain on my parade, and all the clubs you get in using my name.”
You have to check out the very serious and stoic Freeman read the lyrics from “Love Yourself” here. Needless to say, he sounds nothing at all like Justin Bieber. Freeman did a bit of an eye roll when introducing what he was about to recite. It really is a funny clip.
Rolling Stone Magazine writes about Freeman’s dramatic reading. “There aren’t many voices that are quite as soothing as Morgan Freeman’s. Couple that reassuring tone with Freeman’s reading of lyrics from Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ and it gives the tune an interesting, funny interpretation, which was likely not the singer, Ed Sheeran and Benjamin Levin’s original intention for the kiss-off song when they penned it.”
Beside Freeman being an icon in Hollywood when it comes to acting, his voice is one of the most recognized in the English-speaking world. He has lent his voice out to many venues and he has narrated dozens of of projects through the decades.
He told the story as the narrator in at least two of the films he’s appeared in, “Million Dollar Baby” and “Shawshank Redemption,” according to People. With all the work that Freeman has under his belt, this has to be the one that leaves more people awestruck than any of his previous work. It is not known how Justin Bieber feels about this Hollywood great picking his music to turn into a dramatic reading, but hopefully he feels honored.
