The Vermont Maple uses carefully sourced maple sugar, and the Coconut Almond, my favorite, has generous shreds of Filipino coconut. The 5 Berry (No Sugar Added) and Just Oats flavors bring a delicious product to the market that is low in sugar and packed with protein.
I was lucky enough to get to ask the president and chief executive officer for Innovative Beverage Concepts (who makes Modern Oats), Richard Principale, a few questions about Modern Oats and dietary and consumer trends.
Q: Are you yourself gluten free?
A: I don’t have a personal issue with gluten however our attorney does and we have to keep him happy -after all!
Q: What inspired the creation of Modern Oats?
A: The inspiration behind MODERN OATS stemmed from a variety of things. We didn’t invent the category or oatmeal, so our goal was to be a disruptor and try new things to appeal to today’s savvy consumers. We wanted to carve out a niche and make a product that was up to date. We listened to consumers and followed current ingredient and diet trends, like gluten-free, Non-GMO, and popularity of interesting ingredients like goji berries, and created a unique, delicious, and modern product. We also did a lot of research and observation on what types of products consumers are looking for – grab-and-go is a huge need. And MODERN OATS is a grab-and-go product that people can feel good about eating.
Q: Do you believe that consumers are becoming more health conscious when it comes to fast/easy food choices? If so, why?
A: Absolutely. Consumers are always looking for the next best thing and are increasingly more aware when it comes to health and quality ingredients. That’s why we only work with small farm, gluten-free & Non-GMO Verified, perfect whole rolled oats. These are the highest grade from family run operations throughout the upper Midwest of North America. People are looking for less processed foods, and as a small company, we can create that product and keep the integrity of a delicious oatmeal. When it comes to nutritional elements, we are always trying to maintain higher protein and higher fiber product line.
Q: Does Innovative Beverage Concepts have plans to introduce other healthy food-on-the-go products for people with food sensitivities?
A: As of right now, we are focusing on our new flavors and gathering response from consumers and businesses. We’re always listening to feedback to make sure we’re ahead of the curve and ready to introduce a new flavor or product that people will enjoy. We’re always testing new things… more to come! Q: What is your favorite flavor of Modern Oats?!
A: It’s really a toss up between the Vermont maple in the coconut almond . I am a real maple freak .
