The 2016 MLB Opening Day live stream online and TV schedule officially gets underway this afternoon as baseball fans welcome back the boys of summer! While the calendar says spring arrived back on March 20, it still feels like winter in a lot of the US. Nevertheless, baseball will kick-off Opening Day with 12 games on the schedule that include several marquee pitching match-ups.
According to a CBS report, the first game to get underway will be a playoff rematch from last season when the Houston Astros take on the New York Yankees from the Bronx. New York will have their work cut out for them as they prepare to face 2015 CY Young winner Dallas Keuchel. Keuchel finished last season with a 20-8 record and an ERA of 2.48. The Yanks will counter with their ace Masahiro Tanaka. While this game will feature two great pitchers, so will a handful of others, including Felix Hernandez facing Cole Hamels when the Mariners take on Texas.
Later this afternoon David Price will make his Red Sox debut against Corey Kluber and the Indians. In a late start on the West coast, Chicago’s Chris Sale will battle it out against Oakland’s Sonny Gray.
In the National League, all eyes will be on two of the highest priced pitchers in the game in Max Scherzer and Zack Greinke. The Washington Nationals will send Max Scherzer to the hill when they open in Atlanta this afternoon. The Braves will start Julio Teherán, who has pitched much better over the past two seasons than his win-loss record indicates. Scherzer left Detroit to sign with the Nationals before last season began.
Another pitcher who scored big thanks to free-agency is Zack Greinke. Greinke left the Dodgers at the end of the 2015 campaign and signed with Arizona. This evening Diamondbacks fans will get their first shot at seeing what $200 million big ones can buy when the D-backs open against Colorado. The 6 month march towards October begins today, and while there will be many peaks and valleys for each team, the electricity Opening Day brings can never be matched!
