Michael Nesmith announced again April 29 he won’t be a regular part of the upcoming Monkees 50th anniversary tour with Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork, but says plans are being formulated for a special 50th anniversary show featuring the three surviving members. He said he would love to join the tour for an occasional guest spot, but that because of an upcoming book deadline, he can’t do the tour full time.

“I can’t go on the Monkees tour in May. I won’t be there except by chance and right now that chance is one in a million. Please don’t make your decision about buying tickets to the Monkees show based on my possible attendance,” he said. “I have a commitment to Random House Crown to deliver a final edit on my book and I am working on it diligently — as I promised — and there are many weeks of work to complete this task. The book is scheduled for publication in (the) first quarter of 2017.
“So that is the situation, I would enjoy doing a show with M&P (Micky and Peter) as one the Monkees — and I want to do a 50th anniversary concert or festival or something in the late summer (or) early fall. We are all working on that. It could be a terrific Monkees show. And if it works so I can come sing a song or two with M&P on their Monkees outing, I will. They have invited me and I have accepted, but only if I can.
“That is the full Monkees tour scoop from me. M&P can deliver a great Monkees show. It’s a good band playing good pop tunes and great video. It’s worth going to even without me. As you can hear from our new record, Mick sounds great and Peter can cover my harmony parts ’till I get there.” Nesmith first revealed in March he would be not be doing the tour. Both Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork reassured fans then that Nesmith was welcome to join the tour anytime.
The Monkees on Thursday released a lyric video of their new single, “She Makes Me Laugh” from their forthcoming album, “Good Times.” The single was formally released today (April 29) and is available from Amazon and iTunes. A deluxe version of the album, which comes out May 27, is available for pre-order on iTunes and Amazon.
