Mexican and Italian may seem an odd combination but it works for new restaurant owners Letty and Pedro Perianez who will celebrate their grand opening on Friday, February 19 at 10:30 a.m. with a ribbon cutting.
Located in a storefront, in the shopping center on 5th Street East and Palmdale Blvd., the small restaurant will feature a variety of tempting foods from both nationalities. Although they are both of Mexican descent, Pedro operated an Italian restaurant 12 years ago in North Hollywood for several years and is currently a chef at Holiday Inn. He will divide his time between the two locations.
Letty has always worked as a waitress, so a restaurant seemed a natural thing to do but she is both happy and nervous about the restaurant. “It’s a business and it’s hard to start a business, but we think it’s good,” said Letty.
The couple decided to open a restaurant because of her husband’s cooking experience and his love for cooking, particularly Italian food. Even their two boys, ages 17 and 20 are on board with the idea and will be helping out in the restaurant.
“They are scared, a little shy, but little by little they are learning,” said Letty whose brothers-in-law also work in the restaurant. “They like it because they know their father is a very good cook.”
The Perianez’s are looking forward to a successful start in this Eastside location after searching for an affordable location. “For now we think we want to try here and later we can see what happens,” said Letty. “Here it is very small but we think it’s a good place to start.”
Some possible combinations recommended by Letty are carne asada with pasta instead of rice and beans or a chile relleno with pasta. “We think if you come to taste, you’re going to like it,” said Letty. Personally, a cheese enchilada and some pasta sounds like a brilliant idea.
The menu, which includes more Italian than Mexican dishes, includes breakfast items, salads, pizza, paninis, pastas, and seafood items. Italian specialties include fettuccine alfredo di pollo,, rigatoni ragu, spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli and penne scampi. Seafood lovers will enjoy their Insalata Di Mare with shrimps, clams and calamari . There are pizzas for every taste, from traditional pepperoni, vegetable pizza or, if you can’t find one to your liking, create your own. They also do catering and offer delivery services. They will even prepare food at a your home, so the next time you need a home cooked meal ditch the take out containers and have hot fresh food cooked while you relax.
They also have an app you can download to order online, just scan the QR code on the billboard outside their store or on their take out menus.
The restaurant will be open every day only closing early on Wednesday and opening late on Sunday so the family can attend church.
The public is invited to the grand opening at Cucina Perianez which is located at 433 E. Palmdale Blvd., Suite O, Palmdale. For more information, or to order out, call (661) 441-4118.
